I finished the VdlP yesterday in Santiago. I went through Astorga tongrt there faster. No pilgrim masses on the Frances. Not even starting from Sarria.
Via de la Plata all the way into Astorga is extremely flat as a Camino. My app tried to convince me there were mountains on the last 80km, I...
they never answer emails. I wrote them in December to get a room for March. Not even a single reply. You can see similar experiences when you check them om Gronze. I just walked past that village and stayed in the next.
After Merida trail quality is good. Definetely still water on trail for another few days but nothing crazy anymore. Right after the monastery there was supposed to be some complications, but I avoided that part.
Im about to reach Careces.
Walk out of Merida towards Aljucen was already pretty good. No big deal. Probably because it was hilly.
From Torremejia to Merida it was a complete s**tshow. Its very flat there. I doubt there were any pilgrims that did not choose the car road near the trail instead.
Once I get back home, I will put the daily posts on my blog + compile images to Youtube video + videos to daily Youtube Shorts. Will make make a notification on the forum with links then :)
From other pilgrims I have gotten information that roughly 20 pilgrims started both Friday and Saturday.
It seems like the holy week is not as insane for finding accomondation as I was told.
All pilgrims in the albergue I am at finish at either Merida or Salamanca.
I am posting daily blog style updates on Facebook that anyone can see and follow:

There are also video format stories visible on both Facebook and Instagram (stories auto-delete after 24h)...
Im personally pushing for Santiponce (9km from Cathedral) the same day as my plane lands. Got the idea from Robos videos :)
From Google Maps I have seen a Carrefour Express right on the route before it splits:
Calle, Rda. de Triana, 2, 41010 Sevilla, Spain
If you go through Camas then also a...
I have re-done the gear list now over and over again. I tested the foldable water bottles - did not like them. Might use 2 really tall and slim store bought water bottles instead.
I made the list to include weights and Amazon links for each item...
Here is the new list (bolded items are changes compared to original list):
Main daily gear
1x Osprey Stratos 24L backpack + cover
1x Altra Timp 3 trail runners
1x Patagonia Torrentshell 3L waterproof jacket
1x Colombia Silver Ridge II shorts
1x Under Armor Streaker tank top
1x Buff midweight...
I ordered some 700ml foldable plastic containers. carrying 3 of them should save me quite a lot of weight and pack space. thanks again!
Now my pack weight will definetely be under 6kg. will make a post here once I have done a new weigh in.
Really good feedbacks, thanks! Especially Rob with the detailed descriptions. Your mornings were a lot warmer than what I expect.
I made a little change in my packing list and swapped out the thermal leggings for some regular tracksuit pants. Then I have a fresh pair of pants for the evening...
I have done some Summer Caminos and I intend to go light with a small backpack. My list does not include some hygiene stuff that I will buy in Spain and deplete as I go forward step by step.
The current weather I have at home is more or less what it should be like in mornings before sunrise...
Thanks for the blog link. I have 6 months left to prepare. Doing 10km walks daily early in the morning to be ready for some crazy daily distances once the real thing is on. Will read your blog about VldP slowly in time from start to finish.
I'm really thankful for all the insights here! Looks like I will be taking Altra Timp trail runners to this Camino.
I also booked flight tickets for March next year to have a good balance of morning cold and midday heat. This might be the first Camino where I do not take shorts with me, but...
I was putting together brochure style information about the most popular Camino trails that people are walking to/from Santiago. I will be starting Camino Norte in 2 weeks, so the amount of research I have done makes me quite confident in knowing more or less what is ahead of me for that trail...
