    Torremejia - one to avoid

We walked there about a week ago. Stayed at albergue Rojo Plata. You get the key at Bar Cafe Rojo, despite the note "closed "on the door. Nothing to complain. The albergue Turistico has been closed now for years, they told in the town.

LIVE from the Camino @DeansFamily on the Vdlp

Nice to meet You DeansFamily today on route. Like to tell all the others on VdlP, that the albergue Rojo Plata in Torremejia is under renovacion, (cerrado), BUT if you go to Cafe Bar Rojo on the main road, you get the key to albergue. The owner is so wellcoming, and the menu at bar is exellent...

Via de la Plata - Pilgrim numbers in decline / flatlining

Staying today Zamora albergue. Was Completo 16.30 . There are 32 beds, and more peregrinos seeking bed at hostals later on the street. Busy on VdlP. We walked 4,5 weeks on camino Sureste/Levante and only saw 4 pilgrims together. What a surprise to meet this croud here.

LIVE from the Camino This and that from VdlP from a long distance peregrina

Hi Beatrice. We walked after the embalse the mountain way without any problem. Nothing to do with the railway contruction. And the albergue in Canaveral is great. Buen camino

    Supposed to be dry today

You always find a solution, e.g. Today in Galisteo albergue is full, but there is a pension next door and a hotel a bit faraway.

    Heavy Rain on the VDLP

Today without rain, but the paths are wet, and there are no cubic stones after Canaveral. So, you have to find your way over arroyos. Today we managed, otherwise a beautiful day. Albergue in Galisteo full again. A lot of pilgrims on the VdlP. Tomorrow rain promised again. Let’s see.

    Supposed to be dry today

Walked yesterday in terrible rain from Casar de Caceres 21 km to find out, that the Alcantara albergue was not open. ( a private party I suppose) Abt. 20 pilgrims had to walk additional 11 km to Canaveral. We wandered, how can this kind of albergue be on the guid lists witch is so often closed...

Walking the VDLP - Sanabres or continue to Camino Frances

Sanabres is beautiful and you avoid the crouded CF going via Sanabres

Castilblanco de los Arroyos to Almadén de la Plata. aka. the stage from hell.

No pain, no gain, as they say. One of the most amazing stage on VdlP. The countryroad is beautifull and silent, though. (IMHO)

    Guides for VdLP

That really is the case. However the path is all the time some 20-30 metres off the road, or more. No problem at all. Btw. We stayed at Casa Saso, a few kilometres after Valdunciel - abt. 22km from Salamanca. There was a lovely atmosphere at a homelike albergue, and good dinner served, and...

    Guides for VdLP

We did Seville to Salamanca 2015 and Salamanca to Santiago (via Sanabres) 2016. Both of them September/October. Best time of the year (IMO). Btw, we are there on March this year again from Merida to Salamanca.

    Guides for VdLP

We followed one on our VdlP 2015 and 2016. Bought it at the office in Sevilla. It's not as detailed as the Brierley guides, but we never got lost. It's a low weight book and an inexpensive one, too. And this one was an English version with both Sanabres route and the route to Astorga.

    A few questions

What about Tourist office in Salamanca, on The Plaza Mayor. I think they have Credencials. There is a El Corte Ingles store in the middle of Madrid, easy to find, where ever you stay in. On 6 floor there is a sport department. We bought walking poles there 9.99/ each. Rain gear also to be...

    Sleeping bags

Just arrived from VdlP/Sanabres. A sleepingbag is absolutely needed. There are quite a lot of alberques without any plankets. We were without our own and had to buy own plankets in Ourense. Another notice: there are some alberques with a new kitchen, but not a single pot for cooking.
