Via de la Plata - Recumbent...?

As others have written, it's mostly doable by bike so it will generally be doable by a recumbent trike, what hasn't been discussed is the added difficulties of using a trike. Looking at the ICE Adventure HD it folds, which is good, what's the weight and is it the manual or e-assist model? A few...

Biking the via de la plata

Another option could be to buy good second hand bikes. Check / contact the local bike shops, look on Wallapop or Milanuncios as there are usually 100s of bikes for sale and it should be a buyers market.

    de la Plata from Africa

We live in El Colorado, Conil; it is perfectly feasible to continue along the coast from Conil to Sancti Petri but you have to turn inland, pass through Chiclana then continue on the new Camino across the Salinas to San Fernando then on to Cádiz. In my original post above I meant the...

    de la Plata from Africa

Some good info from others so a couple of different points; from SA can you fly to Casablanca or Rabat then train to Tangier? the ferry from Ceuta goes to Algeciras, if you want Tarifa then catch the fast cat from Tangier from Tarifa you will have to walk the N340 to Valdevaqueros but there are...

Cycling the camino from Mid August - But where? Via de la Plata, Ruta de Lana, Camino Olvidado? (Edit: The winner is Via Francigena)

Living near the coast south of Cadiz I'd say forget the Plata unless you really do enjoy sizzling in the frying pan of southern, inland Andalucia, it can be brutal. A coastal camino would make more sense, Portuguese, Del Norte, Primitivo. Or starting from Sevilla head west to the Algarve then...

E bike Battery charging on the Plata

After buying an eMTB a few months ago - mainly trail & dirt riding - I soon discovered that being economical with the power would extend its range somewhat. That is, use eco most of the time, trail if absolutely necessary and never use boost. Also switch off if going downhill, with the wind or...

    A Newbie

Yes, I have used Correos to ship bikes within Spain, never a problem, generally 2 days, no damage. Are you sending within Spain or to France? What I do is write out details such as name, email address, Correos delivery address (if France assume it will be a Bureau de Poste), mobile number...

    A Newbie

Hi, did you complete the ride or maybe you're still en camino? It's always interesting to know how a novice bicigrino fares especially as parts of the Via de la Plata is not always that easy to ride. Hope you enjoyed the journey. Richard

Cycling stages on VdlP: How to Make the Most of Your Journey

Hi, it would be useful if you could describe your experiences of negotiating the Media Distancias with bikes. For others it may be useful information and I'm hoping to take an assembled bike from Cadiz to Madrid in May. Thanks

    In Hindsight

Kev & Kath, thanks for your gracious reply. Maybe I should qualify some of my comments a little; I don't know the route of the Via Augusta but I have ridden 2 or 3 times Sevilla - Cadiz and the worst (boring, flat, uninteresting) part is from a few kms south of Sevilla to Jerez being across the...

    In Hindsight

To my mind Cadiz & Sevilla are both great cities, worthy of a couple of days each, but the walk between them must be pretty mundane as it is nearly all across the Guadalquivir flood plain. Take the train or bus so as to save yourselves for the more interesting landscapes. PS: why plan in such...

Cycling the Via de la Plata in September .....if possible .

Perhaps he meant -5° which is pretty cool. This winter in south Spain was a little contradictory this year, warm to start having us worried about an "ola de calor" this summer, March & April were pretty cool, a mini heat wave in May but since then the weather has been relatively cool here...

    VDLP

Yes, it will be HOT in Sevilla early September, is walking N -S an option?

Thoughts on starting Via de la Plata in May

Start early, lunch, siesta under a shady tree, then walk some more if necessary during the early evening. If it gets too hot then there are buses & trains aplenty to take you northwards. Hat & plenty of water, she'll be right.
