Biking the via de la plata
Another option could be to buy good second hand bikes. Check / contact the local bike shops, look on Wallapop or Milanuncios as there are usually 100s of bikes for sale and it should be a buyers market.- Skinnybiker

Living near the coast south of Cadiz I'd say forget the Plata unless you really do enjoy sizzling in the frying pan of southern, inland Andalucia, it can be brutal. To my mind Cadiz & Sevilla are both great cities, worthy of a couple of days each, but the walk between them must be pretty mundane as it is nearly all across the Guadalquivir flood plain. Perhaps he meant -5° which is pretty cool. This winter in south Spain was a little contradictory this year, warm to start having us worried about an "ola de calor" this summer, March & April were pretty cool, a mini heat wave in May but since then the weather has been relatively cool here...- Skinnybiker

Thoughts on starting Via de la Plata in May
Start early, lunch, siesta under a shady tree, then walk some more if necessary during the early evening. If it gets too hot then there are buses & trains aplenty to take you northwards. Hat & plenty of water, she'll be right.- Skinnybiker
