    November weather on VdlP.

On this date last year I was in Torremejia on the 9th day of my walk. It had been very hot up to then with temperatures during the day in the high 30s. I'm thinking of a November start this year in the hope it'll be cooler.

    November weather on VdlP.

I know the further north a pilgrim gets the more chance there would be to encounter cold and rain. What would the weather be like on the southern part at this time?

Yes, thr hill at the end of the day comes as a unpleasant surprise

Going in and out of Ourense

I just crossed into Galicia this morning. When I get to Ourense I'll follow the river route.

    Albergue in Alcuescar

I'm posting on Facebook. Stephen Devlin should find me. Also on FB page, Slow strollers on the Camino. I'm 70 years old and am coping. I started on 20th September and it was, and is, still quite hot. With hindsight I'd look for a time when it was cooler.

    Albergue in Alcuescar

I found it very moving. Two close family members are in similiar situations back home in Belfast. My sister is suffering from dementia and her son suffered catastrophic head injuries in an accident more than 10 years ago. Initially he was in a home for physically disabled people but his...

    Albergue in Alcuescar

I'd found the church in the centre if town but could see no sign of an albergue. I eventually decided to see what booking.com had and booked with them. When I arrived the proprieter told me they were fully booked and drove me to the albergue. It all turned out well in the end. Thank you for...

    Albergue in Alcuescar

Does anyone know where this is? Is it near the church? I ask because the town is deserted at the minute. Siesta time, I guess.

    Black magic or devilment?

I'm reminded of a couple of lines from an old comic song where the pig did care. "You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses At that the pig got up and slowly walked away..."

    Black magic or devilment?

I saw this hanging from the branch of a tree on the VdlP between Monesterio and Fuente de Cantos. It looks like a pigs skull. I'd say devilment.

Early September weather on the Via de la Plata?

I'm guessing the temperatures will have begun to drop then and it won't be quite as hot as July or August. Would it be a good time to start this Camino?

Hot days on the Via de la plata

It's a wise pilgrim who knows when to listen to good advice. While I'm not saying I'm wise, indeed many a time I've been described as 'Not wise', (a Belfast term similar to 'eejit') I'm now convinced that starting from Sevilla in the middle of Summer could be problematic, to say the least...

Hot days on the Via de la plata

I celebrated my 70th birthday a few weeks ago so I'm twice the age of that Italian pilgrim. I think it might be sensible to put the Via de la Plata off until there's cooler weather. I'll have a look at the Norte.

Hot days on the Via de la plata

A 35 year old Italian pilgrim, suffering from heat stroke, dehydrated and disorientated, was rescued by the authorities after he called the emergency services. With my meager Spanish that's how I read it.

Hot days on the Via de la plata

I'm just about to book a flight to Sevilla for later in the week with a view to starting walking the Via de la Plata. Before I do I thought I'd ask how best to deal with the heat. Last August on the Frances around Pamplona there were days when the temperature was around 100 Fahrenheit. It was...

    The Camino leaving Sevilla.

I've managed to get lost in Lisboa, Pamplona, Logrono, and Burgos while on recent Caminos. I'm guessing that the Camino from Sevilla starts from somewhere near the Cathedral. Is the way out of the city well marked?

Converting miles to kilometers using fibonacci numbers

I still like my beer in imperial measure. A pint seems just right.
