    Oseira Monestery

It is possible if you set it up before arriving and meet the qualifications. I did the tour, attended vespers and stayed in the alberque - a great experience.

Demographic of VDLP pilgrim in recent years

Last year it was mostly older men, several few couples, a few single women, mostly German. Almost everyone was experienced, many retired - all had a good time.

    Ourense to SdC

Oseira is definitely worth visiting, as is the monastery and vespers. The day I was there the restaurant was closed, but the hospitalaro was able to order in food and the nuns took care of breakfast.

    Dinner time on the VDLP

Walked in April-May 2023. As mentioned, the services are limited, so you have to plan ahead for places to sleep, eat, buy food, pharmacies, etc. Then factor in the weekend when many places are closed, holy days, local holidays, etc. Walked a long day to Oseira the only restaurant was closed...

I walked in March-April of this year and only encountered a couple of times where there was an issue due to unexpected closures. Just pay attention to the stages and options and you should be ok.

It was more challenging than the Frances, due to less infrastructure and services and perhaps an increase in demand as more pilgrims decide to walk something other than the Frances. This rout has everything, especially if you...

Gear list for VdlP in March/April

I agree with Rob. I started the VdlP in late March and found a few mornings a bit chilly (starting at 6-7AM), but I just layered. Only thing I wished {I had was a pair of lightweight merino gloves. My gear list was similar, but I used a Zpack Nero DCF backpack (on all three Caminos) which...

    Which water?

I walked the Via de la Plata and Sanabres this Spring (2023) and found few water fountains, but most were clearly marked or somewhat obvious. Water from these taps can still be used to cool down - hat, buff, etc. Tap water was fine. Good luck and just carry more water than you need.
