Just to say that it is nice being back on the Via de la Plata. We´re taking short stages -- up to 22 ks and doing well for the moment. We´re no longer the walkers we were in 2005 when we walked from Le Puy to Santiago, but we can´t complain, even though our bodies and bones do.

A little over a year after we had to stop the VDLP in Alcuescar because of a fall I had, which turned out to be bad.
We are flying this evening to Madrid. Will pick up a train to Salamanca, two nights there, then a bus to Alcuescar. We'll start walking from Alcuescar next Saturday morning (si...
We stayed at the Hotel Simon as well and enjoyed it. They have a special price for pilgrims as well as the creancial.
Staying at the other place would enable you to meet pilgrims just starting the VDLP like you and that could be nice too.
Buen Camino!
I'm working on it. Or rather, it's working on me... Good for the soul :-)
How did your time in Grañon turn out? Was it as great (and exhausting) as you thought and I hoped for you?
I am so impressed with all of you for your days of 30-35 ks. I did a few of those but several years ago and I cannot begin to imagine walking days like this, unless of course moved by the Camino Spirit.
At any rate, bravo to all of you!
I'm looking at returning to the Camino this fall starting...
Hello, Melanie,
I have been thinking of you ever since I read your post and have been wondering how the bugs are treating you these days. I have no advice to give really. I just hope the bugs have moved on and you can now enjoy the VDLP bug-free :-)
Buen Camino, claire
Thank you everyone for your encouraging comments.
Back now, waiting for my knee to recover, processing the time we spent on VDLP, and knowing that we will go back there, better prepared for it :-)
Life is good.

Monasterio now has an albergue, right in front of Hotel El Pilar. I missed it but another pilgrim I met stayed there and liked it. I guess you will see sign before you get there. My mind must have been somewhere else. The Extramadura seemed closed when we walked by it in early September.
When you look at the stages, you will see that you need to carry water. In some cases, you have 27 ks without any place to get water -- or anything else for that matter. May should be a beautiful time, from all that I have heard :-) You will love it!
Via de la Plata, End of Phase I, Sevilla-Merida (September 2011)
Greetings,
If you have a sixth sense, you know that our Camino this year did not go as planned.
Paul and I just returned yesterday from Spain and decided that we will return to the Via de la Plata next year to pick up the Camino...
Yes, Arn, the heat has been brutal. We started remarkably well: on Sat Sep 3, in a light fog with a temperature of 16-17 degrees. Can you believe this? But by Tuesday, I think, we got to 35 and then 37.
From Castilblanco to Almaden (I think), when it is a 29 k stage, we took a cab to the...
