I don't have access to my laptop right now. Cutting and pasting links, or trying to on my tablet, for me is an exercise in frustration. If you type in viadelaplataguide.net you will end up in the right place. The link to download gps tracks appears after you click on download and get a download...
When I walked the VDLP I used maps.me and downloaded the route via Gerald Kelly's webpage. He also has an online guide to download which came in really handy.
If you want company in the evening on the VDLP you probably want to walk it March-May. Not sure if February might be too early. Hopefully some of the forum members who have walked in February will share their experience.
I walked it in 2018 (an unusually cool, wet year) from the end of May...
For planning purposes I've always liked gronze.com. In addition to the distances between towns it tells you what services are available once you get there. It also provides information about and links to accommodations if you want to get in touch with them for any reason.
Hi Ern-
I have walked both the VDLP and the Norte. Both were amazing IMO, but in different ways. Please don't ask me to pick a favorite.
The VDLP offers more variety in scenery than the Norte. To me I felt that the VDLP was somewhat more historically interesting. The gorgeous waterfront...
Like you, I am a woman who walks alone. Last May-July I completed the VDLP-Camino Sanabres. I did not run into any situations where I had to camp. There are some stages where you don't have a lot of flexibility about how far you go for the day-unless you enjoy 40+km stages.
For me it was...
In April there will most likely be beautiful wildflowers. By late September things are pretty brown if that makes a difference to you. Also, you will likely have more company in April.
I walked the VDLP -Camino Sanabres this year from May 29th -July 6th. This year was unusually cool and wet in Spain. The first 2 weeks I had more issues with being chilly in the morning vs. being too hot. Of course, the weather is different every year.
Eventually the hot weather did arrive. In...
If both the tienda and the farmacia were there in 2015 there are a couple of recent edition guidebooks in French and English that need updating.
Lalin is headed in the wrong direction but at least you'd have a place to sleep. I don't know about others but I have a hard time adding more kms to...
I am on the VDLP/Sanabres , which starts in Seville, right now.
One of the most challenging things about this route is the long stages without towns along the way to make the stages shorter or stop for a bite to eat.
I can understand your reasons for wanting a route in the south. The reality...
Hi Everyone -
So first the good news - there is now a tienda and a farmacia in Asturianos.
Word on the street was that we needed to stock up in Mombuey, as the next opportunity to buy anything besides bar food would be in Puebla de Sanabria - 30+kms down the road. When I was in Asturianos...
A question for anyone who has walked the VDLP- Sanabres. Are there ATM's from bigger banks (Caixa, Santander ) available on this stretch? Smaller places like Liberbank and Caixa Rural won't take my bank card so it would be helpful to know before I leave Zamora.
Thanks in advance for taking...
Thank you for the link to the tracks. Maps.me doesn't show any of the routes in that area continuing through to Carcaboso which has me a little concerned.
Has anyone stayed here recently? When I was in Alcuescar the other day, the hospitalera at Casa Peregrina told me that the municipal in OdP was closed due to bedbugs. I didn't think to ask at the time how current her information was. Does anyone have current information about this albergue?
Has anyone recently walked this route? If so, was the way to Carcaboso clearly marked? According to the Gronze schematic the San Gil variant to Carcaboso appears to be shorter than the "regular" route. Is this true or is it wishful thinking on my part? Would love to hear from anyone who has...
Thanks for the suggestion. I struck out on appointment availability in Merida. When I arrived in Aljucen I found a note on the door of the termas saying closed for the day for personal relaxation. Maybe BdM will work out.
So I am looking at the gronze.com website about the VDLP. Their map shows a dotted line detour to Cruce de las Herrerias. Has anyone taken this side trip and if so, why did you or didn't you think it was worthwhile?
