I have had many magical, mystical, transformative experiences on the Camino. There were times that I truly thought that I was living in an alternate world, a separate reality. For a few years, I have thought that the Camino changed me in so many ways. But, with time, and more Caminos, I now see...
I would advise not spending time sightseeing in Madrid. That’s not what you are there for and you don’t have a lot of time. In any event, resting and sightseeing are two conflicting goals. The Frances is your best bet. Get to your starting point as fast as possible and then rest there, or...
I encourage you to go alone. It will be a challenge but you can do it. There may be lonely, confusing, depressing times. But you will meet a community of kind and supportive pilgrims. You will come to know yourself and what the Lord intends for you.
I’ve done many Caminos but I envy you...

As others have said the Norte has a lot of paved surface and road walking. This summer while walking the Norte again I found an app that described each stage on different caminos and the percentage of road walking vs dirt trails for that stage. For the Norte there were frequently days of 70%...
My first Camino was a magical, transformative experience. I thought hard about whether a second one would be worthwhile. Finally I decided not to overthink it. I approached the second one with the attitude of; the first one was great so I am going to do it again but without great expectations, I...

With respect to accommodations, you can check on gronze for albergues that have rooms with 4 beds. Then ask the albergue if you can book that room for your family.
I’ve walked all the caminos you are considering twice. Just finished the Norte. I really think the Frances is your best choice...
In general the Frances is the best choice for a first Camino. There is a more readily available connection to the history and spirit of the medieval pilgrimage. But, you will enjoy whatever camino you decide on. If you are fit and a seasoned hiker then here’s a vote for considering the Primitivo...
You have received so many wonderful encouraging replies already. I would like to add my basic strategy for making friends and meeting people. I smile, wave, and say “buen camino” to every single person I pass by while walking. I do it so much it sometimes feels kind of excessive. But that person...
I think we are conditioned to plan and try to control everything. To me, one of the main attractions of the Camino is that, at least in the past, one does not need to plan each day. I walked the Frances in July and August this year. Covid has made things more complicated. I want to go on an...
