US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

Update: So I thought my plan was €15 a month. Just recharged (extraordinarily easy task online). It was only €10. Maybe I was charges an extra 5 for the sim. Not sure. Service? I was on top of the hill of the first stage (south west of Irun) with the magnificent views. I received an...

US International Phone plan or Spanish SIM card while on the Camino?

Inflation or I got ripped off in Barcelona today. Jas11 and krystianw above said they purchased their 50 GB plan for 10 euro at Vodafone. I went to the nearest Vodafone store near Placa de Catalunya and bought their least expensive prepaid plan (15euro/$16.26 USD/for 28 days): 50 GB data/...

long sleeve Merino wool shirt for SUMMER

I have been wearing smartwool blends since 2005. Started with their vented socks which were really comfortable. Been wearing underwear, t-shirts and long sleeve t-shirts since 2014. 4 caminos later, super comfortable, not itchy, easy to clean and dry (hand washing/hang dry) and long lasting...

    Bank verification with Spanish SIM

I'm from the U. S. but I use that Canadian actor's phone company, Mint Mobile (I think Google phone operates somewhat like this too). Cheap rates with Mint. Once you have wifi anywhere in the world, you can call and text as if you were in the U.S. I used to have the text go to my sister and...

    Sunglasses

Decathlon and Home Depot. I know the pain of losing sunglasses. Decathlon carries a basic ( semi stylish 😎) black plastic sunglasses for years at a very reasonable €9 (last time). They are very sturdy. If you are in the states, Home Depot carries safety sunglasses for $5. Surprisingly...

    Cell phone use in Spain

Might consider another option than the $10 a day plan. I copied and pasted from responses I made from other phone threads below. Short version is you can get a lot of phone and data cheap in Spain. My last plan from May/2022 was 15 euro for 800 minutes to the U.S. and 50 GB of data (they do...

What's Your Favorite Socks or Combination You Have Ever Used?

Smarwool PhD. No creams. Just one pair of socks with Borreal shoes and Asolo boots. 3 1/2 Caminos with no blisters. Easy to hand wash and usually dry the next day. I keep wondering why I bring 3 pairs of socks. Seems like excess weight that extra pair. 😀 Sorry to overshare but...

FromTrail Runner: Rock plate "Specific to trail-running shoes, rock plates are hard plastic inserts situated between the midsole and outsole of the shoe to prevent sharp objects from injuring the foot. How important is a rock plate for CF?

This! "Mananath" (needed quotes bcuz my spell check kept changing I to Manawatu), if you're young, lean and have a light load, you might not need a rock plate. I'm old, chubby and mostly feeble minded. I need a rock plate. Well said Jordan! Crackpot

How important is a rock plate for CF?

Same thing occurred to me during training before CF. The therapist told me it was stone bruising. I was sensitive to the constant pressure being transmitted through my then mostly new Merrill Moabs I was going to use on my then upcoming CF. The ache was right in the center of the ball of my...

How important is a rock plate for CF?

+1 for the rock plate/shank. I saw several pilgrims with stone bruising carnage by day 2 on my CF. Several people limping around the albergues with a U.S. quarter/ .50 euro coin sized red dot in the ball of their feet. Mostly people wearing running shoes. I won't leave home without a rock...

    Price of Sim Card

I'm very happy with Vodafone in Spain. 15 euro for 50GB internet, 800 minutes calling time to the United States, unlimited calls in Spain. You get some internet and calls while in France (not exactly sure of the exact details). No contract. When you are done, stop prepaying. Weird 28 day...

Sunglasses / Camino Portugues / Walking in August

I get my safety sunglasses (eye protection, UV protection and stylish too) at Home Depot in the U.S. for $4.99. They're sturdy won't disintegrate in a day.. I carry extra incase I lose them. That way I won't fret over losing an expensive pair of sunglasses.
