Although it is a delightful pastime to research and overanalyze Camino gear choices, just say no to extra items. After 5 Caminos I can honestly say my arse never had trouble finding a suitable place to sit. Sometimes it was motivation to push on a little further to "that" sweet spot or keep...
Just to throw in another opinion as we all have different socks, shoes, and feet. 😎 I don’t change out my socks until I arrive at my stop for the evening. The only time I take my shoes off during the day is if I feel a hot spot that needs attention (which doesn’t happen very often). I...
Not a competition at all. Everyone can and should do their own Camino in whatever way suits them and makes them happy.
It does seem like more and more people who haven’t walked are thinking that “everyone” has their pack shipped and that is just how you do the Camino.
I’m simply offering...
65 Liters is very large for the Camino as a regular pack. That may be part of the confusion here. If you had a pack half that size you could just use one. As a point of reference, I used a 38L on my first two caminos and now have a 30L that I’ve used on my last two Caminos. Plenty of room...
I still don’t really understand why one would want to bother with two separate packs...again, unless there was a physical need.
There is a real freedom in carrying your own backpack. You don’t have to worry about where it is, wonder when it will arrive, or find that you need something you’ve...
Why not just pack light and carry your pack? (Unless of course there is a physical reason not to). You don’t need much for 5 days. That way you always have everything you need on board.
Buen Camino
Don't use it, didn't bring it, didn't miss it. Glop in my socks...yuck! ;)
One pair of good fitting, quality hiking socks works for me. Rarely do I ever blister.
But as always everyone is different and whatever works for you, works.
There are so many variables and opinions for each item in...
Is it possible to exchange your pack for a smaller version of the same one?
That would solve the carry on problem.
To each their own of course, but 65L seems pretty large for the Camino...
I started out with a 38L and am now down to 30L for the last couple of Caminos.
Good luck!
I sent my pole (I hike with one) home to California from Santiago twice by itself as checked "luggage".
I always take my pack as carry on and the pole is just a little too big to fit inside.
No bag or cover, just an address label clear taped to the pole and the airline luggage tag attached.
It...
Looks pretty good.
I'd skip the Scrubba, coil, bug spray & head net, hair dryer, and take either a day pack OR a shopping bag.
But that's just me.
Oh, and maybe add a change of clothes for Mr. Bean. ;)
I started with an Osprey Kestrel 38L for my first couple of Caminos and then got a Tempest 30L.
I'm very happy with the lighter weight of the smaller pack. The pack itself weighs about a pound and a half less when empty than my previous pack.
There is more than enough room for everything...
Sometimes you can find them at Dollar Stores. I keep a small one in my pack and use it to put my socks and undies in when sharing a washing machine with others.
Obviously pack choice is as personal as choosing hiking shoes and one size does not fit all. That said, I would always opt for smaller and lighter. A few pounds really make a difference over weeks of walking. I have a 30L and carry a small compact sleeping bag. Plenty of room for...
Yes. I've carried a 30 L pack on my last 2 Caminos and had plenty of room. I even carry a lightweight sleeping bag as I prefer to use my own bedding. You never know what's been using those blankets...;)
I did skip a shower in one small albergue because the person before me kept shrieking about how there was no hot water and she was hopping up and down and howling! But that's a different thread... ;)
Nope. Never wear shower shoes. Have traveled extensively and done several Caminos including the Norte this year. Never had a problem. I always turn the water on before stepping in to get a decent temp and a quick rinse of the stall and soap up my feet well before exiting the shower. If...
It's a common bonding experience to discuss all things Camino here. That's why there is this forum. Learning how other people see the world and the information they share can be enlightening. Do we really need dozens of threads about what socks to choose? Of course not. Just pick a...
