I tried to adjust for this with my "additions". Instead of my sub-500g pack, i calculated a 1kg pack (and you can get one of those for a more reasonable price), instead of my 240g sleeping bag i calculated a 640g one... and so on. Maybe not everything 100% correct, but i'd bet one can get around...
I added even more comfort items to my pack this year, bringing it up to about 4kg. If i was to add my tent (~700g), a sleeping mat ( ~400g) and a warmer sleeping bag (add ~400g) and maybe a few hundred gramms of utensils for camping that would still put me well below the 6kg mark. Add 500g for a...
My sleeping bag is the "Cumulus Magic Zip". Very light down sleeping bag. Kinda expensive. Might be hard to get outside europe.
Regarding packing, i kinda envy you women for the option of packing those good looking but still very light sun dresses. But then, from my experience, the most easy...
Well, I'll have to watch this tonight. It seems plenty interesting.
However it might not be that relevant to myself. Yes, i also like to pack ultralight for camino, but my conclusion is that you get diminishing returns after some point.
While my pack weight in 2022 for the CF was 3,6kg, this...
Impossible to answer, sorry. You'd have to have some kind of electrical engineer run tests and take them apart to get a good answer.
Some possible explanations:
- Heavier charger is designed for faster charging
- Heavier charger is designed more sturdily (but charges just as fast or even...
I like to have a windproof jacket with light insulation (that i can wear most of the times) and combine it with a light fleece underneath (when it gets colder).
You can look at the weather forecast about 3 days prior to setting out and decide how much gear you want to take. But the weather can...
One of my major issues with "mainstream" backpacks (like Osprey, Gregory, Deuter) is that they make the side pockets stupidly small (my guess: it looks better) and usually don't provide sensible options for attaching bottle sleeves to the shoulder straps. Or, god forbid, put a mesh pocket there...
To do away with the most obvious first: There is some saying among experienced hikers along the lines that a pack for 3 days will look very similar to a pack for 3 month. My pack for the CP would look pretty much exactly the same as it would for the Camino Frances. Maybe I'd leave something at...
I used the FH900 on a May/June CF and i especially liked the light weight and breathability. For the occasional rain it did fine. In long lasting rain it is not enough. I took my chances and it worked, but have been aware that i might have to buy a poncho or something if there would be serious...
Walked the Frances twice mid May to mid June, very different weather both times. Generally, i found the early mornings in the meseta rather fresh. Second time the pyrenees been extremely windy, but well above 20°C. The mountains after Leon can be cold too. Even seen some snow falling in June...
I guess it is possible but i would advise against it unless in an emergency. Just try walking with your blanket for a few minutes and think what it would be like if you had to do that for a full day.
I started walking on similar times in May. Last time the forecast predicted a heat wave for at...
I had some expensive merino boxers. On hot days it resulted in them itching in wrong places.
I switched them out after a week on camino for the cheapest synthetic running boxer Decathlon is selling (iirc 3-4€) and they have been working fine to this day.
It certainly looked silly, but it was 100% intentional and worked perfectly.
The theory: Stuff on the drying racks gets mixed up all the time and you might end up losing your socks because all those dark grey things pretty much look the same.
The solution: Get stuff in colours you'll be able...
I like your aproach, but let me recomend a different pack:
https://www.decathlon.de/p/rucksack-travel-faltbar-wasserdicht-25-liter/_/R-p-309863?mc=8560421&c=gr%C3%BCn_grau
- lighter
- slightly bigger
- waterproof(er)
- imho more practical
- cheaper
I own this pack (men's version) and use it for day-hiking. The main compartment is rather small, so for a multi day trip you should be VERY smart about your packing or else it wont fit.
Build quality is decent. Comes with a bladder and a rain cover. Hipbelt pockets are rather small (my 6" phone...
Mixed feelings.
I like seing bigger companies adapt to some of the smarter design choices, like decently sized side pockets or front (mesh) pockets and minimizing on the gimmicks no one uses.
On the other hand, i see no practical attachment points on the shoulder straps (daisy chain or...
First: thanks for providing a list one can actually work with!
- The combined weight of your Backpack and Sleeping bag is 3.000g. Mine are 716g together. Lots of middle ground for weight saving there...
- For me typically 1 long sleeve was sufficient
- Not sure on the bras, i know lots of...
I can agree with that. But then, bringing a sleeping bag is not what makes a pack heavy and the somewhat applied assumption was (or it least felt like it to me) that optimizing for weight would imply doing questionable choices that one might later regret. (like not taking a sleeping bag in...
Now we can all define "minimum" in different ways, but i find it kind of offensive to assume that light packing implicates that one has not packed the "required minimum" needed on a camino. Honestly, i assume packing only what I define as a "minimum" is somewhere around 2,5kg. With my 4kg...
