    Italy - phone sim?

I'm flying into Milan on 26 April and plan on getting a Vodafone sim. I have an android older style phone and e-sim won't work for me. Also airolo uses whatsapp to make calls.

chatGPT suggested packing list - just for fun

I've been testing it out as well. I am mighty impressed; although all the references were fake in my examples. It will only get better though.

Pee Cloth - leave no trace

I just held on until I came across public facilities, or bar where I might have breakfast or lunch. The tiolet paper along the paths should not be there.

Warm clothing needed in May on Frances Way

This is what I did as well, light layers and cold days wore them all. Plus a poncho for the rain.

Women over 60 who DON'T take a sleeping bag...

I walked the CF for the first time when I was 60 (in May 2018) and I took a very lightweight sea to summit down bag and was glad I did.

    Which poncho (between these 2)....

Both are cheap. You really need to get a recommendation from someone who has used one over a couple of days. I bought a 22 euro poncho in Astorga, it looked sturdy, after one wear the seams split and I got it caught on something and it ripped. Plus it took up a lot of space. Into the bin and I...

Trekking Poles (yes I know....but I'm torn on which)

I bought a cheap pair of poles (about 40 euros) in SJPDP and left them behind in santiago because I didn't want the hassle of transporting them around Europe and then back home to Australia. They would have lasted many more kms.

    Best earplugs

I also bought some pink, I think silicone ones, in Leon I think. A couple of euros and 4 in a small clear box. Very effective , only problem no chance of hearing an alarm.

    Walking poles and Qatar Airlines

    Oh well, good to know.

    Walking poles and Qatar Airlines

good to know but if you are planning on any cheap flights within Europe it could become expensive if they don't allow them onboard.

    Help with Lamb's Wool Questions...?

I picked up the wool in the fields and used it along with everything else. Injinji socks and vaseline. It's the lanolin in the wool which I think is important. Also you can wrap it around your toes for protection. I have a friend who swears by when hiking.

    Best Poncho in the Universe

I just bought one in Australia, $13. I hope it lasts.

Back Pack Rain Cover AND Rain Poncho?

agree it's worth spending money for something that lasts, especially if it is something that you will use again and again. I plan on walking another camino, so it would have been worthwhile if I had, for example, purchased an Altus.

Back Pack Rain Cover AND Rain Poncho?

It can't be your fault for not trying it out. The test is using it in the rain. A couple I had just ripped at the seams, and I'm not sure how you can tell if it will rip or not. My 22 euro poncho also ripped at the back the first day. I don't know if it got caught on anything but the material...

Back Pack Rain Cover AND Rain Poncho?

I bought a couple of cheap ponchos, including one for 22 euros in Astorga. Even the 22 euros one only lasted a couple of wears.

Back Pack Rain Cover AND Rain Poncho?

I have an 46l Osprey Kyte with a raincover. It wasn't too heavy. You might want to use the raincover when its drizzly and you don't want to wear your poncho.

The One With The Most Money Wins

There was one in the pilgrim's office in SJPDP which I used to weigh my pack before I started walking. My bag was way too heavy and then I had to wait five days, until Puenta da Reine before I could get to a open post office, and also left behind a few items before then.

    Best Poncho in the Universe

That is good news. I tried various raincoats and ponchos (including 22 euros) and they all ripped. I didn't want to spend $100 on an Altus.

What if I don't have a cell phone?

I met a German guy on the CF who had a phone but no credit, so he could make emergency calls.

Anyone know if there's a shop in Cacabelos where I could buy a walking pole?

Have you tried the municipal for any left behind poles and leaving a donation. Or other albergue, pension etc.?
