Thanks for bringing up dog tags! I had two made. One for my pack which had my name and telephone number and one that I wore around my neck with my name and an emergency contact person in the U.S. & their phone # in case I became incapacitated somehow.
My Altus was clammy within minutes of walking. The ventilation is terrible, in my experience. I've thought of removing the elastic at the wrists and adding a snap so I'm able to open and close it as need arises. It was dripping wet in the sleeves and felt awful. It did keep my pack dry, however :).
I bought a nylon laundry bag with s drawstring, measured it to the size of my backpack, took it to seamstress who cut it off and double-stitched it. Before I left for Spain, I sprayed the inside and out with permethrin (anti-bed bug spray). It folded up into an extremely small and lightweight...
You will most likely run into rain - sooner or later. You can either take a poncho (less weight) or take rain pants/jacket (and leave them along the Way:) The rain is unpredictable so being prepared is wise. I have an Altus poncho which is quite long and zips/buttons. The problem with it is you...
Remember that every ounce in the morning feels like a lb. in the afternoon :). Seriously, keep it light and manageable. You'll be glad you did.
Buen Camino!
Hola...
Yes, Body Glide is great! I used it each morning on my feet and didn't get any blisters. But I also wore a wool liner sock under my wool socks, as well. Wool is the best. Don't wear synthetic socks or liners as your feet will sweat like crazy and that can cause blisters. My boots were...
Hola, Pilgrims!
I have the Sirrus 36 and found it amazingly roomy for what I needed on the Camino. I also had another "dressier"outfit to wear once I was on my way home. It was a great fit for me! I also had a sturdy, but light-weight, laundry bag that I used to keep my pack in at night (no...
Hola, Pilgrim...
The answer is Glide, which I put on my feet every day so as not to get blisters, wool sock liners and wool outer socks from REI. It's important to take special care of your feet! I didn't have one blister!!

Hi...
You'll need an adapter and converter if your phone is US. Go to Best Buy, an electronics store or a travel store. They can show you which one is good for Spain. It will also work in France if you start out from SJPP. I actually left the adapter part in an albergue and had to buy another in...
Hi Poncho Packin' Pilgrims!
I bought an Lightweight Altus poncho in SJPP ($60) and it was incredibly hot. The sleeves held sweat so badly that it grossed me out! The only reason I wore it at all was to protect my pack and to keep from being totally soggy. But I was in bad rain for the first 2...

Hi...
I've been told that sometimes tying your laces in another way will help relieve hots spots.
My boots are one half size bigger than I usually wear, but I agree that it the...
Falcon...just saw the boot tying techniques and can see how they can be very helpful. Thanks
for the info. I'm going to copy it and put in my book for the camino walk, just in case.
Re: Techno Geek’s Guide to the Camino
Thank you for this valuable information. I am sure there are some updates, but the basic information is a really nice thing to have. I am walking the Camino Frances in May/June 2012
and am grateful for this guide!
