Sooooo, if you do not make some hard decisions, you will cause yourself endless grief, with potential foot and back problems. My slogan after seeing what heavy packs cause? Go heavy, go fast, go for too long, go home early.
In light of this, I suggest that you look at layering to get warmth...
Take a look at snow board, surfing or fishing sun glasses. They are built to handle tough outdoor treatment and usually have good lenses and are mostly not horribly expensive. Blenders snowboarding glasses are around $50 USD and are quite good. I also had a eye glass keeper which kept them out...
I found that the short skit can limit your stride length. You may need to pull it up when stepping up. Otherwise they are great. I took 1 and just washed it a lot. Pretty quick dry.
I used a baby bath sheet which is basically Turkish towel. They are coton, loose weave and can wrap around you like a pareau. You find them in the baby section, usually a three pack. They dry fast, work reasonably well and offer a modesty wrap as necessary.
I am an Altra convert. I wore Lone Peaks on the CF and had no foot issues. The advantage of Altra’s Lone Peaks is the wider toe box, the zero drop sole, and the general flexibility of the shoe. Wearing the LP’s actually helps develop the musculature in the feet, which in turn makes the ankle do...
I did not read all of the replys, so, sorry if this is a repeat.
I wear Altra Lone Peaks and so does my husband and sister. We have very different foot shapes and sizes. My sister has a very narrow, flat foot. She puts some plain old Dr Scholls inserts in to take up volume. My husband has a...
Be sure the “luxury” item is worth it’s weight and worth carrying for 30+ days of 5-6 hours a day walking. If you send your pack ahead each day, bring what you want, otherwise your luxury items may be the reason you can’t finish. Having said that, I certainly enjoyed listening to others...
I wore long sleeve light weight wool shirts every day, September through the beginning of October, even on the Meseta. In the morning I added a short sleeved wool shirt over the long sleeve and an older nano puff jacket. The nano is a great light weight compactable jacket that works great in...
I found that the biggest issue I had wearing sandals on the Meseta was the dust the permeated my socks and rubbed a hole in my heel. I found that if I changed my socks several times a day, I was fine. No blisters. Looking at those sandals, all I see is multiple places that will wear holes in...
I used a simple light down throw from Costco, (2 for $29 last year) as recommended by @trecile. The fabric is slick, so I used pins to keep it attached to my silk sack. I was very happy with it. Perfect weight for September theough October.
I did buy a light weight sleeping bag I didn’t take...
I use the Orange card. Worked well. Renewing minutes for to call is easy- most supermercado’s and tabacs will add money to your account. However, you still need an Orange store to renew the data side. If you have a Spanish credit card (I did not) you can renew online. Orange stores are around...
With curley hair, I do not use shampoo only conditioner. The conditioner bar, Au Naturel, from Get Lathered worked great. I used it everyday.
It lasted the full 45 days of the trip with about 1/4 remaining. Towards the end of the trip, the bar started to melt a little around the edges. I kept...

I used the GetLathered conditioner bars across the CF. I don’t shampoo.
Do you have a recipe for your bars that you would share. Any chance that you make conditioner bars?
I used an Orange SIM card in my unlocked Verizon iphone. I purchased a data and phone plan at the Madrid airport and paid about 50E for 9g of data and phone use. The data lasted for 30 days and the phone til I used it up. I did not have to use open WIFI on my phone, which protected my phone...
So, I have an apple watch3 and I like it alot. The reasons I like it do not really apply to trekking- I can check my stats yes, but I can answer my phone without having to dig it out, I don’t miss calls, etc. None of those things I want to do trekking except the fitness bit-HR, distance, time...
Take a look at the Icebreaker merino blend shirts. They are soft, do not stink quickly, and cool. My only complaint with the full merion, is that it tends to wear out in the armpits over a relatively short time (1 year). However , the blend seems to have fixed that. Anyway, worth the cost.
