May-June Camino Frances - Rain Gear & Eating ware

I know this is a question on gear and I can see you are allowing a lot of time for your Camino but I would really recommend you try extending your walking distances before you go. Yes, those shoes may be ok for 5 miles but not for 10. Yes that weight (if you have walked with it) may be ok for 5...

Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

Sorry, just that you said 5am. I was never up at that time but assume quite dark. Anyway, plans change on Camino. I actually slept better than I have in years, didn't go to bed earlier, just slept later so had a later start

Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

"head lamp... I'm going in summer so I think light will be enough to walk by around 5 - 6 am" This is Spain, sunrise in July is 6.30am. The anachronistic time zone throws people who expect sunrise about 4am mid summer

    What Size Water Bottle/s

Love this idea! I knew silver did not carry bacteria which is why nurses belt buckles used to be silver but did not know that it actually killed bacteria. BTW, your point on aluminium is my view too. Years ago I read an article in a science magazine where a scientist made the link but he was...

Experience with waterproofing spray for cloth walking shoes?

You wish to make your shoes water resistant? Such resistance is futile

Pants or Shorts? Second pair of Shoes?

I spent many hours on Duolingo which uses only Mexican Spanish which has more than a few differences

Pants or Shorts? Second pair of Shoes?

I may have been a little facetious, who knows?

Pants or Shorts? Second pair of Shoes?

Hola Rodrigo, lots of good advice here as always but they have all missed an important point. Try to learn a little Spanish before you go and maybe get a phrase book, it will help a lot!

    Boots?

Boots or trailwalkers? Different for everyone. More than 40 years ago I had a close encounter with a rabbit hole going downhill. Spectacular cartwheel, many stars seen when my head hit the ground which distracted me from my ankle being mangled. Took weeks of being in plaster, limping for months...

    Portable Charger

I bought a small rechargeable battery, about the same size as a mobile phone, provides around 8-10 hours of power for a mobile, satnav etc. Charge the phone and the battery overnight and never came close to having less than half power left at the end of day

Searching for the perfect hiking pole

Thank you! I am now Chi walking, not just slow!

Footwear: The Limitations of a Personal Recommendation

I did my first Camino last year wearing Merrel Moab mid GTX, reasonably worn in. Week or so in blisters beyond imagining!! A lovely Senora in a farmacia winced upon seeing pics! She suggested certain products and a Spanish antiseptic liquid and a few suggestions for future care. I have left her...

Please help me to figure out how to phone ahead for accommodation

This may be true but the flip side is that Booking.com does generate a lot of business for small places. Quite often I was one of only few (or one) guests.

Please help me to figure out how to phone ahead for accommodation

Don't forget once connected to speak very loudly and slowly in English. The Spanish do appreciate it! (Joke!)

    Backpack Type!

Looks ok to me but I know nothing! If you carry it at home, up your weight and use to evaluate. Then if it gets too heavy uncomfortable on Camino use a transfer company now and then. I did and felt no guilt at all! Having hobbled into Molinaseca with back pain due to long term problems I did not...

Who has packed the lightest pack?

No way, do not believe it
