I have a Eddie Bauer Travex dress and if need more warmth in evening, a really light sarong. Together weighs only a few ounces. Sarong also doubles as scarf if needed on chilly mornings.
Excellent idea. So much lighter. But please skip the cologne. You will likely be living and sleeping in close quarters and many people have sensitivity to fragrances.
Buen Camino
Eddie Breuer Travex knotted dress and knee length capris. Used dress for evening wear, cool, loose and comfortable and if a cool evening, a batik wrap. Back at the albergue, undergarments off and capris on. Modest and comfortable.
Capris doubles as a base layer on cold days, Travex is very...
Do you need them? No. But are they helpful for stability, balance, reduction of strain and especially walking down hills, yes.
I did my first without and my second with a pair of walking sticks. With was easier and less strain. I have a friend who uses a staff and it works for her but I prefer...
Forgot/choose not to bring a journal both times. I am sorry I didn't. Thought using Tumblr would suffice and it was fine but next Camino I will have my journal. Remembered not to leave my fairly heavy Nikon at home. Glad I had it. My pictures bring my so much pleasure.
In addition to my...
I brought a very light top that I had bought originally as a bathing suit cover up. Very thin fabric but not see through, sleeveless and when I occasionally rinsed it out, dried in no time. Wore with capri length leggings which doubled as base layer on cold days. Never felt undressed walking...
Hi, I used capri length leggings for "long johns". They were also my sleep bottoms so double purpose. Synthetic, snug fitting and perfect under hiking pants. Lots of warmth and no bulk.
Buen Camino.
I loved my merino/polyester long sleeved top. Bought at Costco and very reasonable. Very light and fairly fast drying. Short sleeved Under Armour Heat Gear is all polyester but really comfortable, and dries very quickly. Finally for a September walk I also brought a very light weight Eddie Bauer...
Hi Debra, I am a shoe minimalist. I hate shoes and if I could, would walk in flip flops. Having said that I did walk in Merrell Moab, very stable and comfortable. And Teva hiking sandles. Amazing on pavement and packed surfaces. But whatever you buy, make sure they are at least a half to one...
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I can now focus my search. Never thought of carrying a larger pack to make finding things easier but that is a good suggestion as long as I don't succumb to the temptation to overload
Hi, I am in the very early stages of planning my next camino. I sold my Osprey backpack I used on my previous walks. I loved the comfort but really hated the top load feature. No matter how well organized I though I was, what I was looking for always seemed to be at the bottom. Especially...
Welcome Sineadyism,
Not knowing where you are and what you consider plus size I can only tell you my picks. I wear North American size 14. I wore Eddie Bauer Travex pants and capris (size 16 - a bit loose but comfortable) Eddie Bauer lightweight micro fleece, Underarmour t-shirts and Costco...
HI Nanc, your list looks good but I am curious about the need for a groundsheet. Are you planning to camp? Also I think you could go with two bras. Keep in mind everyday you will be wearing, rather than carrying some of your weight and the poles will help and worth their weight in gold.
And I...
I had pouches in the waist strap on my pack. Never put anything of value in it. I have used a waist money belt but found it awkward. I then used a cross body pouch. Much preferred it. Stayed with me and easy to access money, passport, tissues, etc. It had three zippered compartments. I kept my...
Hi Minaleigh,
I has an M/L Osprey 38 and never an issue as cabin luggage on 6 different airlines including discount carriers in the EU. Even had my walking poles inside last year. Important to really compress and wear your jacket on the plane to further reduce bulk but it was fine and fit...
HI Asel,
Looks good but not sure you need both a sleeping bag and silk liner. I'd go for the bag.
Also do you have a travel towel other than hair. I saw face cloth but not towel.
Buen Camino.
Hi, Try Lily of France 2401755. Three hook back closure, external underwire, padded shoulder straps. Moves with you and dries quickly. I ordered mine on Amazon and in my usual size.
Two Caminos and both are still in great shape even if the white is a bit grey. I wouldn't order white again...
