I was able to travel out of Boston with poles in my pack as carryon. However, TSA would not allow in Madrid! They took them, so I purchased new poles in St. Jean that were inexpensive, yet very functional.
Got this off Amazon . Ordered and USED the bright orange poncho. Loved it. Kept me dry along with pack and there’s a toggle at the back hem that you can draw between your legs to hook into to the front hem Loop so the poncho stays in place. The orange color also made me visible to traffic!
I used the Globetrekker and really liked it. I opted for the orange so I’d be seen on roadway! I also brought along rain pants and a rain jacket for added warmth on cooler days more for use after my days of walking.
Great advice whether you're injured or warding off unwanted advances of people/dogs I used the whistle to deter an approaching dog. He took off like a shot.
Women's hiking pants never seem to have generous pockets for things like a
passport or credential, so I have resorted to wearing men's pants. I figure I'm not
out there to make a fashion statement so don't really care if the legs are a little baggy.

Many thanks for your thoughtful and comprehensive reply...you know no other way. I have shaved off close to five pounds with better choices. Lighter weight clothes. As your tag says, "You do have our backs...always!"
Good grief DaveBugg, have you been on "clothing optional caminos"? Would you please share what you would pack from SJPDP to Santiago to have a backpack weigh in at 9.5 pounds. I am obviously making some poor choices. I didn't even carry a sleeping bag!

I had no problem going trough Boston's TSA, however, the folks in Madrid took them. I would strongly advise to check them or simply buy new ones upon arriving at your destination. You'll find them readily available along "The Way."
I was sized many years ago and advised to size up 1 1/2 sizes. I haven't been disappointed with that advice...ever. I have sized up one and a half sizes with my cross trainers, hiking boots...and winter boots. This allows for cushiony wool socks which I hike/walk in all year. My feet tend...
My walking poles were taken by TSA in Madrid in August of 2017! I was able to replace them easily in St. jean, but those walking sticks held some sentimental value for my husband! Alas!
