It's really not a poncho, it's a slicker. During 3 weeks of heavy rain and wind on the camino last Oct/Nov I wore mine constantly. As J Willhaus said, during the breaks in rain you can pull your arms out of the sleeves and it stays in place like a cape. I can't recommend it highly enough.
When I was preparing for my first camino, several people gave me well meaning gifts they thought would make my trek better. I took them (and the extra weight) not wanting to hurt their feelings, but I carried them all the way to Santiago without using a single one of them once. For my second...
I used an Altus poncho (it’s really a slicker, not a poncho) when I finished the Francés from Leon last week. I can’t praise it strongly enough. It rained almost every day and my pack was never wet. You can open the front and take your arms out of the sleeves for temperature control if the sun...

I appreciate the challenges of technology that are part of modern day living. For myself, it's more of a challenge to unplug than to plug in. I hope your camino goes well and you enjoy the time you have on this walk.
Buen Camino!
Air travel tip: I was trying to get my treking poles in my carryon baggage and was being denied by the airport security. After I explained they were simply part of my sleep aid system they let me through with no problem!!
Whatever headlamp you get, please make sure it has red light capability. I have been woken by earlier risers with white lights. My petzl headlamp with red light setting, has not to my knowledge, woken anyone sleeping later than myself.
If you want a journaling map/ap, I used Find Penguins on the CF last summer. It won't tell you where you are or where any facilities are in real time, so it's no use for navigation. But it provides a space for journaling and uploading photos/videos. It also provides a map based on the...
