In 2013 it was wet and muddy in early April starting from Pamplona and there was later snow in O'Cebreiro. Each year the weather can be different but I would recommend you be prepared for wet and muddy conditions and be pleased if it turned out to be not that way.

Patagonia Mid P26. Gortex. Reasonably low and light but with good ankle support. Bought them on sale some months ago and have worn them in blister free. I also like the Salomon ortho lite but am walking in April and prefer the Patagonia pair in rain and mud.

I am used to using anti-shock poles and will bring them with me. However, my wife will not use any pole at all. In the end, I think it is a personal choice and depends what you are comfortable with when you walk. But definitely trying them out before the coming can help make the decision.
