I have a Euroschirm with clips. I’ve just finished the Ruta Teresiana from Avila to Salamanca and I’ve loved it. It’s worth the weight for me to keep the sun off.
Thanks for the comment about the Chacos. I have a pair that I’m going to wear on the Ruta Teresiana and the Camino de Madrid in September and October. It’s good to hear your positive report. My training in them has gone really well. I like the airflow and room for my feet to spread.
I agree...
I’ve bought a Keepgo e-sim that provides data and it will work in Spain and the UK. I’ll activate it on arrival in Spain. It seems easy enough to top up and I don’t lose any data left on it, so long as I top it up annually and I think a dollar was enough to do that.
An update on the tests. The CamelBak worked brilliantly - the heater hooked onto the rim with the coils not touching the bottom, the outside remained completely cool to touch as was the rim. So, with the lid it would be easy to make and carry a tea or coffee if I wanted. And certainly easy to...
I’ve bought these two mugs to try. They’re from a local outdoors store, but the brands would be available pretty widely.
The first is stainless steel. camelbak brand. The advantages I can see with that are that it is deep enough that the heater when clipped on doesn’t touch the bottom, and it is...
It’s the size -too small. And the sides seem to collapse in, so I wasn’t sure how a larger one would cope with the weight of the heater. It’d be okay in a microwave, I’d imagine.
Thank you all for these really helpful posts. I’ll certainly check out the thread And the links. I’ve just been thinking that I might find somewhere a double walled insulated mug that could be light and durable and even if it is metal the outside might not get too hot. If I go for plastic I’ll...
Thanks for your ideas. I have tested the small saucepan. Works fine really, but was hotter to handle compared with a ceramic mug.
I know from previous caminos that ‘sin gluten‘ food is available in many places as it is here in New Zealand. I don’t plan to do a full self-catered Camino. It’s...
Hi Folks,
I’m planning on taking an immersion heater when I walk the Ruta Teresiana and the Camino de Madrid in September and October this year. A question for those who use an immersion heater - what type of mug or pan do you use?
The instructions with my heater includes a note to use glass...
Robo, I'm not sure if these are the type of merino shirts you are after, but they could be worth a look. From MJ Bale. The product description says lightweight and they have a half zip.

There are some companies in New Zealand that make pure wool clothing and pure silk or silk blends.

The information says 100% merino. I’m not sure of the weight.
Both of these next companies have pure...
Hi Ivar,
I'm sure it's all about branding and marketing. There are a number of versions now of the same product. I live in New Zealand, so I've just checked online with a major outdoors store here. They call the versions they sell 'Neck gaiters'. It looked a generic term and not a brand name...
