To carry or not to carry an hair dryer?

Instead of bringing one with you, why not try the first week without one? You can always go to El Corte Ingles in Pamplona if you determine you need one. You'll find your body heat dries your hair underneath even in damp albergues and especially when you sleep. If you want dry hair, go with...

    End of the day sandals

I've had a pair of the EVA Birkenstocks for about 6 months now and love them! Great with socks or without. I'm taking mine on the Camino Ingles in May!

    Keeping Shoes Dry

I second the newspaper stuffed into the shoes. Dry overnight. It's a miracle. I did this on the Portuguese when it rained 3 straight days. While my feet were always soaked by noon, at least they were dry when I started each morning.

Sleeping bag or liner only on Inglés in May?

Walking the Inglés with a friend in early May. Planning to stay at 3 albergues (Neda, Presedo and Bruma). For those who have walked it, would you recommend a sleeping bag or will a liner be enough? Any other tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks and Buen Camino!

Camino end of day/shower sandals —-good potential

Definitely not pink, but oh so comfy and great for showers and end of day. Birkenstock arch support with the ability to get wet and dry quickly. Only question is, should I wear them with socks?

Decathlon is now in the US...Find of the day!

So true! I just left Decathlon in Granada with the cross body bag AND a new pair of shoes. Could have gone nuts but space prevented it! Had trekking poles as low as €4,99 a pair (I believe), merino leggings, hats, ponchos, and so much more at good prices. Thanks again for the reco on the bag!

Useful Items from the Dollarstore to take with ? On a budget

Just bought a pack of 6 nappy pins at a China Bazar in Barcelona last week on Calle Girona near Diagonal for €0,75!

GoLite products are back (sort of)

GoLite JamPack bought in 2006 remains my favorite bag. Doesn’t have all the straps, bells and whistles (and added weight) of other bags (no belt pockets or a lid pocket) but when packed properly it’s a dream to carry. And carry it I have! Two seasons as a ranger for the National Park Sevice...

    Keen Newport

I’ve worn Keen Newport H2 (men’s because women’s aren’t long enough) for the last 10 years on every type of trip. I’ve worn out two pair-they fell apart. Bought a new pair (same size and model) in January 2018 and took on a trip to South America, without wearing them much around home. This...

Pack is too large for carry-on

I’m a 6’2” Amazonian woman like yourself and the m 30L “women’s” Osprey or other brand backpacks just aren’t long enough in the torso for me. I ended up with a 38L men’s Gregory in “long torso” size that actually holds about 44L given the extra length and top pocket. Bag is supremely comfy, hip...

Mesh trail shoes and waterproof socks.

Last May from Porto-Santiago it rained steady on us for three straight days, from morning until about 3pm. I wore mesh Salomon trail shoes with the quick lace system. Great shoes as I didn't find boots were necessary. Of course shoes were soaked (and socks) when we stopped each day, but I took...

    The best hiking trousers...

I have a pair of convertibles by Prana that have wider leg openings so boot removal (even with my ladies size 12 boots) isn’t necessary. They come in Short, Regular and Tall lengths for women of most heights. They have a side pocket on the right thigh that’s perfect for a phone or other...

    Favorite sun protection shirt?

I used a couple of shirts by Eddie Bauer and Columbia, long and short-sleeved. I have a pair of "cooling sun protection arm sleeves" I bought in Seoul two years ago and they are great with a short sleeve dress shirt. Arms stay cool and unburned and there's still the benefit of vented sleeves.
