    Hiking Sandals

I hiked in Chacos with socks. They have a style with a thicker sole and straps which makes it ideal for hiking.

    Ladies Osprey Packs

Don't necessarily discount your 65L. You don't have to fill it and it's a lot easier to stuff in the early a.m. than trying to cram everything into a smaller backpack. I took a 36L and wish I had taken my 44L.

    Water bottle adapter

I did the same thing. Camelbak bottles, removed sippers, attached Camelbak hose. Switched bottles when empty.

    Reading while on the Camino

I took my Kindle and was very happy I did. I read every evening after dinner.

Does anyone wear gloves for sweaty hands on hiking poles?

With the forefinger/thumb technique I tend to get blisters on them even if I'm not gripping or holding on tightly.

    Backpacks

I don't think you can go wrong with an Osprey backpack. They're well-designed and lightweight. It just depends on how large it is. A 55L is probably too big, try a 36L. You won't be lugging that much stuff and not nearly the load you carry for backpacking -- stove, utensils, etc. Make sure you...

    Orthotics?

I have the exact same problem: flat feet and over-pronation. I use Superfeet green and they work wonders. Also thicker socks.

    Washing

I have some super-concentrated liquid laundry soap. Takes only about 1/4 teaspoon for a full washload so even less for a small amount of handwashing. I'm taking a mesh laundry bag with a drawstring that I'll bring with me to the shower. I'm going to put dirty clothes in it and a bit of soap, wet...

Does anyone wear gloves for sweaty hands on hiking poles?

I sweat profusely and I wear these fingerless sun-protective gloves. They have suede on the areas of the palms that contact hiking poles. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V5RXW1G/?tag=casaivar02-20

    My Weird Feet

I've tried the toe caps during my training hikes and I find that they change the fit of my shoes, so I'm going to try taping them with Leukotape and/or use lambswool.

    All About Osprey

I tried the Sirrus 36 but found my older Talon 44 to be lighter and more comfortable

Are Walking/Trekking Poles neccesary? Sleeping bag or Sleeping Bag liner

I would never walk without poles. They take weight off your joints, especially your knees, and are invaluable going both up and downhill.

    Time for Some Trail Runners

I've been going back and forth between my trusty Lowa Renegades and Hoka One One's, and I've decided to stick with my Lowa's. I find that the trail runners are too "squishy" for my feet, meaning I don't feel the stability I do in my boots. As everyone says it's an individual decision.

"Buff" question for native English speakers

Actually, the word is trademarked. "Buff" is a brand of a piece of cloth, typically a stretchable, wicking material, that has many uses. Here is a photo of mine. The R in a circle means it is a trademark registered with the US Patent & Trademark office.

    Outerwear

I've had skin cancers too and that's the reason I'm taking the long sleeved shirts (they're SPF 50). My REI pants can zip off to shorts. I'm also taking a pair of sun gloves.

    Outerwear

I would wear a down jacket, for sure! I wouldn't need it during the daytime because I sweat a lot but once I sat down and cooled off a bit I'd definitely want to bundle up! I also am of a certain age so I really appreciate your comments.

    Outerwear

    Helpful as always, Davebugg!

    Outerwear

Thanks, and let me clarify. I'm going by the terms used in the book, "Walk Far Carry Less" and I should have said "insulating layer" rather than outerwear. I have: baselayer: Patagonia long underwear. Mid layer: 1 pair REI convertible Sahara pants, 1 pair yoga pants, 3 pairs socks, 2 lightweight...

    Outerwear

Outerwear is my last remaining dilemma before I start walking on September 7. I expect to finish around October 20. It's the variation in temperatures that's confusing me. I tend to run cold but sweat a lot and will quickly shed layers. I'm taking one short and two long sleeve, ultra lightweight...

August packing list - preparing for the Camino

Wow, all of that is 5.5 kg!? I'm doing something wrong!! My list for September doesn't include cutlery, nearly as many liquids, not as many clothes, and no hardback books. I'm going to have to re-evaluate!
