they're light, doesn't matter if they get wet or anything and to wash 'em you just go swimming somewhere
and last but not least with the netting they also eliminate the need for underwear :)
of course less is better, but i found that 8kg works fine (i weigh 75kg).
Next camino i'm gonna do (Del Norte probably) i'll be bringing about 2kg of camera-gear as well (DSLR, 3 batteries, 3 lenses, tripod)....that's gonna be painfull :(

i brought a small bar of soap, toothbrush & paste on my caminos. For shaving i just had my shaving knife (the real sharp flip-out kind) so i didn't need cream or anything. Instead of a towel I brought a sarong, which is very very light and dries in 5 minutes in the sun...
I've found that while having a stick is nice on the more difficult parts of the route, most of the time you don't really need it.
