That's what I did, and it worked fine for me. I started from SJPP on April 24, so I experienced all kinds of weather, including windy, cold, and rainy days.
I vote for Keen as well, and I know they're expensive, but I got custom orthotics for this Camino. Haven't left yet, but they are making HUGE difference in my training walks.
Oh yes...I have the Kindle app installed on my iPhone. No need for a Kindle if you are okay with the small screen size. I'm good with reading on the iPhone.

I am definitely planning to take my iPhone with me--I fly to Madrid on April 20, and should begin walking from SJPP on April 23:). Maybe the small screen doesn't suit everyone, but with my Kindle app, I can store plenty of books on my phone! Don't need to carry the Kindle too.
