I used my small clothesline rope nearly every day. I would string it on the bunk bed above me every night to allow clothes to dry if not dry by the time the sun was going down. It also served as a nice barrier when beds were pushed next to each other and you had someone else just a pillow away.
Last fall it was really rainy and cold. I ended up buying the largest size of dishwashing kitchen gloves, completely waterproof. They were great and cheap. If you have a thin glove liner, you can wear them underneath.
In 2012 when I walked the Camino I carried on my Gregory 40L bag onto the plane in Chicago and again JFK with no problems. I had checked my poles, a Swiss Army knife and folding scissors. All worked fine and retrieved my checked bag in Paris. Upon the return, I checked my backpack in...
I'm planning to walk the Camino Frances again in October 2014. I walked in 2012 and can't wait to do it again.
What would I do differently? The first thing is carry less. I am looking at new backpacks. I walked with a Gregory Z40 in 2012 and am looking at the OMM Classic 32L backpack. I want...
I walked with a Gregory Z40 which Iliked a lot, but on my next camino I will not take a pack larger than a 30L. The more space you have the more you put in it. I had things I didnt use. It gets heavy after 29 days.

I walked last Sep-Oct 2012 (SJPP-Finisterre). Brought a big rain poncho, the type with arms an snapped up the front. I used it one major day of rain and after walking a day of rain, I was wet everywhere, maybe due to sweat as the poncho was hot. I had also brought rain pants. They were also...
I walked the Camino Frances last fall and started with my iPhone. I lost it on Day 2 and first was devastated, but within a day or two it was not a problem and I think it was better not having the phone. I did use the internet almost daily at internet cafes, albergues or bars so i was...
I walked the Camino Frances (SJPP to SDC and on to Muxia/Finesterre) last fall. I was not sure how long my hiking boots would last and was surprised by the end the mesh near the tops of the toes was beginning to rip.
They were new at the start of my training last year and by the end of the...
I walked with hiking poles last fall and really glad I did. I used the everyday. On flats on hills and on mountains. I was in good shape and walked from SJPP to SCC in 29 days, but thought they were a knee saver and also steadied me when tired. I talk about this on my blog as well as their...
I walked in Sep/Oct 2012 and only took a sleep sack and found it acceptable. Only once I was cold (Roncevalles) and I had to use my poncho for a blanket. I think most other albergue's had blankets.
On my blog I discuss this as well as my treatment for bed bugs which i did before I left as...
I bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-Z619 and loved it. It is compact and has a great lens (Leica) with a 20x zoom. When I researched cameras it has great reviews. It has a rehargeable battery which has a pretty long charge time. I had no problem finding an outlet in an albergue every few days...
Here is the entry on this topic in my blog thoughts and recommendations from my recent camino on the Frances route.
Water Bottles vs Camelbak. I wrestled with this decision for a long time and finally decided to walk with two 500 ml bottles with push-up tops (rather than screw off lids) that...
This is the entry I have on my blog about my thoughts on poles.
Trekking Poles. I used two trekking poles (black diamond) every day. I thought they were a lifesaver on mountain segments, but I found them to be great to use on gentle hills and even flats. They relieved stress on my knees on...
Based on what I've been reading, I should bring two sets of clothes on the Camino and wash clothes each night. Do people carry laundry detergent or do you buy enough each day from somewhere? This is probably a stupid question, but I've been wondering about it. Thanks.
