I was able to work around the zero drop by putting in my orthotics! I have fallen in love with my Altras, so much so that I bought a second pair. My only complaint with them has been my big toe making a hole in the front. The work around Ive discover is something called Shoe Armor (Hope the...
well DUH!! Why didn't I realize this could be an add on!! Dunno but brilliant. I loved my Altra Lonepeaks last year and used my prescription orthotics...which helped a great deal. But..adding an actual rock plate would make them perfect!! Thanks!1
Ok...off topic...or slightly...why not look at crossing before SJPdP?? The Camino Argonese is absolutely lovely. You'd cross the Pyrenees at Somport. The infrastructure on the route is great and it's simply one of the nicest routes IMHO. It's actually the original pass over...used before...
Not sure about your hiking pole issue...but as far as Altras...they are exactly what I walked in last year and found them to be terrific in terms of grip factor. At least IMHO! I didn't have poles (usually do!) and was ok..only two small spots where I would have liked them but made it thru ok...
FYI…. Currently blankets are a rarity on the Camino per Covid restrictions. I’m currently finishing my second stint in an alburgue this fall. So this is current info. Not that it can’t change but both alburgues I’ve been working in were no mantas (blankets). And from conversations with pilgrims...
I think doing as some have already advised you, is the way to go! Get your gear. Be very very selective. Then put it into thin lightweight stuff sacks (I usually have three as AnnieSantiago does) THEN...got to REI and see what pack is the smallest you can use. However do keep in mind the...
Perhaps just check it? I don't see it making it on board. I've had good success with getting stuff like that checked in and so far...all arrived at home as I wanted! So far!
The hubs cut his in half on his last walk. He wants to put it together now and have it displayed. But now it's useless...
You owe me a new keypad. Or get over here and clean up the mess I just made reading your post. Awesome!!! But...then being a full blooded Kraut I would think that!!!
Our spouses must be related. The hubs kept asking for "the" toothpaste, "the" shampoo etc. He'd not brought any...just his pills!! And so this is why I usually walk alone
Weeellll um no!! :D But another option...that females can totally get....thigh chafe...and for that believe it or not...solid deodorant. Apply liberally to inner thighs and ta da!! No chafe when wearing dresses in the summer with no stockings or tights....might work for guys too..don't know for...
We've been using Aquaphor (fancy Vaseline!) and it helps with the feet. Hubs no longer gets blisters at all. I still do...on occasion. Just how my feetsies work I guess. But it lessens them considerably. IMHO! If you take it...take a tiny travel size. If you run out and Andy said...buy more...
Lovely. I use mine all the time. Much to the amusement of my younger brother. But then he's the one with the seriously bad knees getting shots and all kinds of issues!! Laugh away my dear baby bro, I'm not the one with the ortho on speed dial!
I forgot to weigh before drying, but I just checked a small tube of toothpaste. Tube and all it came in at 22g. My dried stuff including the bags I believe came in at 9g. I can't quite remember now if that was both of ours. Had some computer work done and lost that file...oh the horror!! ;-)
Ok so here's my old pack. Loaded to the gills going home. My hiking shoes are in there. My poles. My souvenirs and stuff for family. Walking I believe it was around 7/8k. I agree with @james walter purdum iv . It was nice to be able to rummage around without having to unpack as I'd seen...
Done it!! I'm actually lazy enough that 80 dabs was more work than I wanted to do....so try using foil, put a long line of toothpaste down...or several and then put it in the oven overnight (I have a gas oven and the pilot light keeps it a bit warmer!). In the morning if they are "done" to your...
OMG!! I think you and I must be twins separated by the universe!!! I have a spread sheet and weigh everything in grams!! I've been known to sit with all my undies and weigh them to find the ones that are the lightest!! Socks...even if the same style etc...one might be a few grams lighter!
Last...
@morgan ... thinking of you and hoping everything goes smoothly. Prayers for you and your hub and the entire situation. The last few trips were a bit nervy as my father got progressively older and sicker. So I understand walking with a need to know what's going on back home. So truly wishing...
