This is the most helpful video I’ve seen. Even though I’ve been buying and using backpacks for many years, I loved how each element was explained. Lots to learn! Highly recommended.
I have come full circle on this. Now, I check both my backpack and my poles. I have never - in over 50 years of flying all over the place - lost a checked bag. I tuck both poles and pack into an IKEA bag, check it, then mail the bag forward when I arrive, and I’m good to go.
I walk in winter. They’ll need to keep the pack to around 12 pounds. Pack a change of clothes, soap and toothpaste, and a sleeping bag. But super lightweight tops at Uniqlo and bring a pair of their longjohns.
I brought one along on the Primitivo in July and loved it. It weighed 8 oz fewer than my sleeping bag, took way less room in my bag, and was really warm. It's the way I go from now on.
