The easiest place to trimm weight is your backpack(bp). Most people buy bp
like they are going to war, weights ~1.5kg by themselves. You can save ~1kg by using a bp from zpacks ~ 300g.
A more controversial way would be to lose a few pounds in the weeks before the camino, since
you have trained...
It's probably too late if you have seen smoke. But sometimes there is a slide switch to set the voltage in the converter, Is it there? Is it set to 220?
Also sometimes the problem is whatever you connected to the converter, In very small print , on the bottom of the charger, you can see if it...
A few years back someone suggested a down quilt that was being sold at Costco for $25 ( for 2 ;-)) ).
I got one , asked my sis to sew the end and up to 20% of the way up and that got me a wonderful lite, tiny, almost weightless solution. That has been my goto since. I guess that would be a...
I know that you are asking about trail runners, but , after the crazy weather changes in the Norte I decided to change back to hiking boots, wide and comfy and after looking around settled on this pair from keen, They are the most comfortable hiking foot wear that I have ever used ... just my...
I have been using Google-Fi for a few years. In the camino it works with no issues. I get my US calls as well as internet with no drops. And I have done a few caminos!
The rates are the lowest as they are the same as the US rates, no change! If you are doing the Portugues it is nice to step out...
Madrid center at the 0Km marker, in the same plaza were Apple store is you will find an old store specialized
in walking batons and poles and hats ... I got mine there during the Camino de Madrid.
Later modified to be split in two pieces to fit in my backpack.
La Sportiva, Nucleo High II GTX wide ... very nice! going against the grain, after the camino del Norte I decided that trail shoes are good but trail boots are better ;-)
but for a trail shoe ::
Ultra Raptor II Wide GTX == is my go to, bought a pair to replace my not good for
camino Hoka's (...
I am so happy for that reply as I have been searching for just that. Can you enlighten me as of brand and or website so that I and others can look at them? Do you mean 5 kilo gaiters, military grade?
Gaiters keep things out of the shoes but are not waterproof, waterproof socks keep water away from your skin, but! that said waterproof socks will make your feet sweat. In my recent camino del Norte I had days and days of rain, wet trails, hail like cold hell and my shoes looked like sponges...
I just got back from the camino after 48 days roaming around while using Google-Fi. Seamless from the US to Spain. Not one glitch during all those days. Sent and received text , pictures , email, internet all the shibang! I did not find a single dead spot during the walks and I was using it to...
I have been looking at this ones, they have a good reputation with long distance hikers :

The only problem with the zip-convertible pants ( for hairy legs like me! ) is that when used as shorts the hairs above the knee get caught in the zipper and get pulled out. That is an ouchy! After a few days you have a no hair zone that looks funny.... But it is worth the pain to have them.
Last year on the Mozarabe I tried a pair of Hoka's instead of my Altra's and they gave up on me. So I got a pair of La Sportiva Ultra Raptor mountain trail shoes, made for wearing them for long stretches, while in Granada. I love them the right mixture of light and ankle support for me . I...
I have kept my orange-es sim for 6 years , just top up when I need it. It would not work in Portugal, a real bummer getting off the bus and no gps. So I got a portugal orange sim , also.
This year I will try google-fi seems reasonable with no changes to phone number and data costs the same as...
