Which outer layer fleece for Sept/Oct?

We started the CF Sept 12th and finished in Santiago on the 18th of October with an extra week added on for Finisterre and Muxia. A lightweight fleece was more than enough with a long sleeve baselayer under if needed.

    Drawstring bag to hold backpack

I was lucky enough to pick one of these up for $4.00 on clearance just because. It may come in handy someday, bu I'm with Al. My backpack went in the cabin with me although my waiste pack is way too small to walk the Camino with.

    Shoes

Anne, I walked last September and October and also went through the Pyrenees. I wore BROOKS Cascasia trail runners and they were great. We had rain the last week in Galicia, but they dried pretty quickly. Gore tex tends to make your feet sweat, so I would stay away from it.

    Running Shoes or Hiking Shoes?

There are some youtube vidios out there on different ways to lace your shoes so you can lock your foot to keep from sliding forward. And make your your shoes are one full size larger than you normally wear.

    Running Shoes or Hiking Shoes?

Ola, Here's my experience and I am not a runner. My husband and I walked the 500 miles from SJPDP to Santiago last Sept/October. I wore Brooks Cascadia 8 trail runners and I loved, loved them. Nice and comfy and no blisters at all. We did get rain, but they dry out pretty quickly. My hubby wore...

Camera harness for holding camera to pack straps?

Nice thing about a fanny pack, especially a small lightweight one is you have something to hold your valuables in after you take off your backpack. Comes in handy in the evenings walking around the villages, stopping for a cafe con letche several times a day or running to the bathroom/ shower...

Camera harness for holding camera to pack straps?

I carried mine in a very small fanny pack from Patagonia http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/lightweight-travel-mini-hip-pack?p=49446-0 It also held my tiny wallet, passport and a few other objects and was waterproof enough to take near the showere if need be. It also was small enough to...

    Scarpa boots...

My husband has Scarpas and he loved them when we hiked in New Zealand. However....IMO, I think they are overkill for the Camino. We walked last Sept/Oct from SLPDP to Santiago and he wore low Merrell hikers and I wore Brooks trail runners and it is going to be a long time before I put heavy...

    2 shoe/sandal related questions

We kept our Crocs in a plastic bag in our pack. We had an Osprey Stratus and Sirrus which also opens from the front along with the top and we just put them in the front before heading out for the day.

Just how is a well-fitted backpack supposed to feel?

Hi Annie. Here are two thoughts. 1. Did you try the womens Sirrus version of the Stratos? That is what I carried and it worked great for me. 2. For about 3 months before my Camino last fall, I went to the gym 3 - 4 times per week and worked on upper body strength (back, chest, shoulders, abs...

Recommend you summer weight long sleeve shirt

My husband and I both wore Columbia SPF button down long sleeve shirts over our short sleeve tech shirts. The sleeves can also be rolled up halfway and they are super lightweight. They are quick dry and come in great colors.

Osprey Pack - Talon or Stratos?

So here's my two cents. My husband and I walked the Camino for 37 days this past Sept/Oct. We had both purchased the talon and tried them out around the house, before returning them and eventually getting the Stratos for him and the Sirrus (women's model) for me. We could not have been happier...

    Sock liner question

My husband and I used sock liners with Smartwool sox over them. We also rubbed vasaline on our feet before putting them on in the morning and at least once during a mid morning rest stop. 800 Km and neither one of us had a blister. I walked in Brooks trail runners and my hubby walked in low...

Shipping poles and knife to St Jean Pied De Port

My husband and I flew from Syracuse NY to Paris this past September and he had no problem bringing his poles on the plane along with his backpack. They were attached to his backpack and both went through security, no problem. He did have rubber tips on them, though. Coming home, we shipped two...

Thoughts on photography and camera selection for the Camino

Well, you convinced me to go ahead and get the SX280. Few problems... Best Buy only had one in the whole area and it is opened box, but the salesperson said it looked like it hadn't even been taken out of the box. So they are shipping it to my local store and for a great price of $169.00 I'll...

Thoughts on photography and camera selection for the Camino

Bestbuy has it for 199.00 which seems to me a pretty good price. Do you find that 12.1 is enough mp. Thanks, Linda
