If you wear trail runners now and have no ankle issues I see no reason to change. Over the past 10 years or more the need for heavy hiking boots have diminished as more people realise there are alternatives. I have walked in heat, rain and snow always have used trail runners of different brands...
A good poncho, a smile and a song in your heart. It is the Camino rain, sun, wind and snow all part of the fun. My only guidance is not to worry about it just go with No Expectations and you will have no disappointments.
what suits wear it, if you find its not right stop in the nearest (large) town give yours to another pilgrim and get another one. The Camino will tell you if it suits all other pilgrims have different reasons why they choose their packs.

Hi, I have walked twice in trail shoes the last time I did the CF I wore New Balance Leadville a half size larger and I also wear 2E width. I have just bought my New NB Leadville V3 yesterday for my next Camino this year I will be walking from Valencia. A great shoe.
Last year I walked in NB Leadville the vibram soles took all that the Camino could dish out, I will be wearing these again in 2016, no blisters or sore feet.
