Try washing your old jacket with Nikwax TechWash and then reproofing with Nikwax TX Direct spray on. It has kept my jacket going for some extra years. I have no commercial interest in the product. I am just a satisfied customer..
At College 60 years ago I was taught that "high hysteresis" rubber gripped much better on smooth surfaces. It looks identical to ordinary rubber but does grip better. The problem is to find shoes and/or boots with this! Also do consider trekking poles. They do help.

We walked the Portuguese Coastal in September with temperatures at 30 deg C. Bars had freshly squeezed Orange Juice (and beer!). If you prefer not to drnk water, the local supermarkets sell packs of 200ml orage juice cartons. Of coursemMake sure the cartons are disposed of tidily.
I have found that the Nikwax instructions work! Their Spray On TX direct (sprayed on to a damp clean jacket) seems to be better than the TX Direct Wash In. Possibly this is due to the rinse cycle on my machine being too good.
I would add a first aid kit and a larger 1l metal (Sigg) water bottle.
