New Book - A Thirst For Adventure: On The Way To Santiago

Now that I've finished the book, I have a couple of comments: 1) How could one man consume so much beer? 2) How could he remember the names of everyone he met?

New Book - A Thirst For Adventure: On The Way To Santiago

This is the funniest book I've read about the Camino and I've read quite a few. I've even written one! I have to admit, though, that I'm one of those people with a book in me that should probably have stayed there (loosely quoting from Graeme Cook). I was intending to keep this e-book on my...

    Review article

Paul Genoni (2011) The pilgrim's progress across time: medievalism and modernity on the road to Santiago,Studies in Travel Writing, 15:2, 157-175, DOI: 10.1080/13645145.2011.565580 An interesting scholarly article on published works about the Camino. More about it on my blog.

    Reviews of Four Camino-Related Books

This is what I wrote in 2013: Camino bibliography As an ex-librarian, I must offer you a reading list! The first title is the must-have guide to carry with you. The others are for research before you set off. Of course there are hundreds of blogs out there as well… Brierley, John. A pilgrim’s...

The first part of Isabel Allende's novel "A Long Petal of the Sea" is set in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War.

    My Camino Diaries

Thanks - I didn't manage to find a husband on the Way!

    My Camino Diaries

What to do during lockdown? Or in my case, during lock-in, since our West Australian borders have been closed for two years. The answer is to reminisce about your travels - or even to write a book about them. This is exactly what I did! My e-book is now available on Amazon. Read an excerpt...

A Furnace Full of God: A Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago

Funding cuts to public libraries here in Australia (and in the UK I believe) mean that its harder for them to stretch their budgets to fairly marginal requests. I am an ex-librarian. Also, I'd like Rebekah to sell as many books as possible to boost her income - she deserves it! So, buy the book...

A Furnace Full of God: A Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago

Now that I have the e-book, I'm wondering if the printed book contains other things, such as drawings or photos which I might have missed.

A Furnace Full of God: A Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago

What a beautiful Christmas present to myself! And I've been to Moratinos - but felt it would have been presumptuous to knock on their door without warning. I was silly, wasn't I?

Thinking of writing a book about your camino?

Would any of the writers care to reveal how much money they had received as a result of their labours?

"Great Westward Walk" now in English!

I have read many accounts by pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. This has to be the best! The writing is evocative and inspiring, and the translation masterful. How could this man have so many adventures? How could he remember so many details of fellow travellers and their conversations...

"Great Westward Walk" now in English!

Thanks, I've now received the free Kindle sample. It is an extraordinary generous, lengthy sample, with lots in it to think about: wonderful, wonderful writing (and not a bad translation either by our own Rebekah!)

    "The Reluctant Pilgrim"

There are two books with the same title and different authors! I'm just reading the one by Serge De Nardo: quite entertaining, but he is another person who walks too far each day and suffers for it!

"Great Westward Walk" now in English!

Why can't we get a free sample of this book from Amazon? This is the first time such an offer isn't available, as far as I can remember. I always like to try a few pages before I actually buy a book.

Novels Set In Spain, Any Recommendations?

I've just finished Laurie Lee's book. The writing is beautiful. It serves to remind us that there is more to Spain than the Camino!

Novels Set In Spain, Any Recommendations?

Thanks for the encouragement, David. As I hobble around the house on crutches it's difficult to imagine going anywhere, let alone the Himalayas!

Novels Set In Spain, Any Recommendations?

I'm sorry, but I must disagree with the last two posts. I really enjoy reading accounts of other people's Caminos. They take me back to my days on The Way, as I compare my experiences with theirs. The only thing I hate is prolonged discussions about religious enlightenment - but that's because...
