Here's what Medicare says on its site (bold emphasis mine):
Many people on Medicare buy supplemental policies known as Medigap policies. Here's what Medicare says about them (again, bold emphasis mine):
My supplemental plan has a $25,000 annual limit for emergency care outside the US, and a...
Three cheers. Spent quite a bit of time and effort researching prior to my 2017 pilgrimage, and it turned up exactly this info.
I spotted a bed bug (probably a lone traveling pilgrim) at about 2 am in a Los Arcos albergue and couldn’t get to a commercial dryer until Logroño. Had seen some...
Thanks for this info. It’s very hard to find online reviews for travel insurance from people who actually made a claim (which does tell you something about the relative likelihood of needing to use it). Nice to know of your experience with this one, at least.
About a week into the Frances I was convinced that if one more “intolerable” thing happened - a new blister, another bed bug sighting, etc. - I was on the next bus/train/plane out of there.
The “one more” thing didn’t happen, a stroke of luck. There are challenging things out there at times.
Frances in 2017, Portuguese 2019. CPAP for both. Pilgrims in every albergue but one were willing to move to allow me near an outlet. In that one, and others where an outlet could not be reached, an extension cord was provided. In one case, extraordinary accommodations were made. No one...
I have a Dreamstation Go that’s logged two Caminos.
I have a battery (for camping) but I didn’t take it on the Caminos. I agree that an extension cord would come in handy but any time I needed one, the albergue provided one, or moved me closer to the outlet.
I like the Dreamstation Go. I...
I use a portable CPAP - on the Frances in 2017 and last month on the Portuguese.
In two Caminos, only one person told me they could hear the machine but he said that I t did not bother him. I carry a canister of ear plugs with me and offer them to anyone near me.
If the mask is fitting...
I wasn’t more than a few days into my Camino when I realized there was nothing essential about the endurance test aspect of the experience, and regretted that I put off doing the Camino until I could do the “whole thing.”
Still, this made me laugh:
Remember: Real pilgrims walked back home.
The stairs in Sarria are a bear, but beautiful. You can avoid the ones in Portomarin.
Worse than stairs are steep ascents and descents along rocky paths. There's one somewhere between Gonzar and Ponte Campaña that also can be avoided by taking the bike route along the road that adds only a few...
This would be good information to retrieve; when researching alternatives I found very little information from customers who actually had to file a claim (which is the reason the insurance business is profitable, after all - lots of policies sold, very few claims). Process required more blind...
I'm also carrying a CPAP, and am pretty optimistic given the threads here about them.
I'm debating whether to bring an extension cord (I'm in the 'all non-essentials must go' phase of planning after coming to grips with the effect of every extra ounce, thanks to some trial runs), and am a bit...
