    Older People on the Primitivo

Oops -- I left off the ks for day 8 on my list above. From Berducedo to Embalse de Salime was 14.2k. Buen Camino Primitivo!

    Camino primitivo!

Would have considered ourselves lucky if we had encountered wolves and bears! Not likely, no worries.

    Older People on the Primitivo

We slept in albergues municipales in Oviedo (recommend Albergue de Peregrines El Salvador where we had a room for 2!), Venta del Escamplero, San Juan de Villapanada (recommend highly -- Domingo the hospitalero is wonderful), Tineo, Pola de Allande, Castroverde, Lugo (not recommended), and As...

    Older People on the Primitivo

There were many older people this May-June! We stayed at the Albergue Juvenil in Castro and it was more like an Albergue Ancianos -- I don't think there was anyone under the age of 50 and most of us were well over 60.

    Older People on the Primitivo

We (Wes, 81, Rita 75) finished the Primitivo on June 4. Last September we posted our stages on the San Salvador (Older People on the San Salvador) to encourage older folks, and those who just need/want shorter stages, to walk that beautiful Camino. Most people walk the Primitivo in 11 to 14...

    Mud and more mud

Hello Felice! We walked the Primitivo this past month in trainers/trail runners, from May 16 until June 4, and although there were several places with mud it wasn't difficult to go high along the edges so I guess it all depends on the particular times one walks. We counted ourselves lucky...

    Traveling to start the Primitivo

Does anyone have an idea of how long the train trip is from Madrid to Oviedo? Trying to compare the timing with flying Madrid to Asturias and taking a bus to Oviedo. Of course, when we are ready to commit to tickets, the pricing will play a part as well.

Thanks Tia Valeria -- that's good to know.

    Traveling to start the Primitivo

Thank you all! Will plan on the train but am going to check out flights to Oviedo as well. Love this forum!

    Traveling to start the Primitivo

In May we are flying from Boston Massachusetts, or Hartford Connecticut, planning to fly to Madrid, then take the train to Oviedo (last September we took that train to Leon to start the San Salvador and understand we can continue further to Oviedo). Does anyone have a different suggestion for a...

    Primitivo in oct.

Dawn -- Under "Other Routes in Spain" you are now on the one for the Camino Primitivo. Look for the one for Camino del Salvador in that section. My posting is listed as "Older Pilgrims on the Salvador." I hope that helps.

    Primitivo in oct.

Dawn -- You might want to check my thread on the Salvador (for older pilgrims) doing shorter stages on the Salvador. We stayed at the albergue in Cabanillas and loved it (we were the only ones there the first week in September). I recommend it!
