The Camino Madrid in March 2018

In case of snow on te Fuenfria elevation you can skip it by taking a train from Cercedilla to Segovia. Let me just add Camino de Madrid is simply beautiful....

One Day of Walking in February 2016 - Thoughts?

I believe a 32 km stage plus round trip from Madrid is a bit too much for one day. I would personally go for Fuencarral-Colmenar Vejo (12 km ,open countriside, views of Madrid) or Colmenar-Manzanares ( 15 km , open countriside ) or Manzanares- Cercedilla (19 km, up to mataelpino, then very nice...

Is there a season to the Madrid route?

Trailroamer, a new guide of CDM has just been published by Asociación de Amigos de los Caminos de Santiago de Madrid ( association of friends of CDM) http://www.demadridalcamino.org/home It says that 1:50000 maps are included so this would probably help you in your journey back to Madrid

Is there a season to the Madrid route?

Walking backwards the CDM will be a bit difficult at times and there will be nobody around to look for directions. How about Walking the CDM first then walk backwards the Camino Frances to SJPP ? Certainly a lot easier as far as markings , with more people around and a lot more albergues up and...

Is there a season to the Madrid route?

All albergues on the CDM seem to be accessible (not open) all year round . For most of them you have to look for the keys once you are there so i suspect in winter they may be cold . Two of them (Puente Duero and Villalon ) have hospitalero attending the site, believe opening should be from may...

Place (albergue?) to send a small packet for a pilgrim?

Hallo Helen, on first stages of Camino de Madrid, there are no albergues, so your friend will be staying in hotels ,most likely in Tres Cantos ,Colmenar ,Manzanares , Cercedilla (where the only 'albergue like' accomodation is the youth hostel) and Segovia ,where one albergue was opened...

    A Change of Plans

hallo Annie, for details check my notes on this same forum. Albergues are very nice and they are from 3 to 5 euros but the kindness of people taking care of you we have experienced would certainly deserve some extra... Enjoy CDM, is a beautiful stretch we' ll certainly walk again in the future...

Newbie to Camino...tips and tricks for me?

You can start walking from Madrid, a little over 300 km (200 mls)will bring you to Sahagun, on the Camino Frances, and then you'll have some 350 km to Santiago. Is this what you want to do ? Is you'll love it . Just browse thru the CDM threads and you'll get all the info you need. Signage is...

    Camino de Madrid/del Salvador/del Norte

Can speak for Camino de Madrid. We walked it last may and found it to be a really charming itinerary. You can find details in this section of the forum. For Salvador and Norte bits just go to their section . First three stages of CDM are a nice walk but have no pilgrim accomodation so you'll...

    Camino the Madrid memories

They must be slowing down their committment on the bar..when we passed in Castromonte they were away ' on a stroll ' and nobody ,not even their daughter, knew when they were going to be back.....hope next time will have a chance to meet them... But going back to the first post, we really enjoyed...

2013 walk on Camino de Madrid , nice pictures

CDM is a great itinerary, which we certainly will do again in the near future. What we really missed were pilgrim-friendly accomodations in the initial bit from Madrid to Segovia The albergue in Alcazaren is brand new with water solar heating, one single big room with about 12 beds Giorgio

A few updates for CDM walkers

Hallo Susanna, weather wasn't too good in Spain when we were there, especially on CF and VDLP . Camino de madrid was ok,just a few drops of rain one day and some windy days. Albergues were not really cold, all of them had blankets, with the xception of Villeguillo where we left the fan heater...
