How does the Madrid compare to the Frances?

It depends on what you're used to. The mountain going to Segovia IMO, is totally doable. Like you, before I went, felt a little intimidated. The actual walk over was not especially difficult. Buen Camino.

LIVE from the Camino Camino de Madrid - April 2019

When I walked the CM in 2015 we stayed in Tres Cantos. The accommodation you're talking about where you have to be out by 6AM is located in the Ayunatamento (sp?) or town hall. The way it worked was that you had to arrive at town hall during business hours to check-in. They explained all of the...

    Marks out of Ten?

I too thoroughly enjoyed the Camino Madrid. My only caution would be that finding food during the day was sometimes challenging due to a lack of open bars and markets. It's a good idea, IMO, to carry lunch/snacks with you. Finding food in the evenings was never a problem.

    Best camino so far!

When I walked the Camino Madrid in fall of 2015 there were very few other pilgrims to be seen. Many days the guide book would indicate a bar/cafe in an upcoming town and we would arrive to find it closed. If you like regular coffee stops along the way this is probably not a good route for you.

Intention to walk Madrid to Santiago in May

I walked the CdM in 2015 in early Sept. with a friend. Most nights we were the only ones in the alberques. The point being, finding other company is (usually ) a pleasant surprise but don't assume that you will. Someone who is a lover of solitude will likely have a greater appreciation for this...

    Starting CdM Sept. 4th

Walkmag- the weather in September last year was absolutely wonderful. Out of 35 days of walking from Madrid to Finisterre it only rained twice. The first week or so Temps were in the low 80's or high 70's during the day and 50's at night. After the first day of rain it cooled off to high 60's...

    Camino Madrid - April 18 - May 4

Information on accommodation in Manzanares de Real or Mataelpino

We stayed in the albergue in Mataelpino during our CdM outing last month- very clean, new and worth a stay. If I 'm remembering correctly it was only 6 euros. Because the CdM is so sparsely traveled my walking partner and I had the entire place to ourselves.

    Starting CdM Sept. 4th

Thanks to all who replied and to Alan for the info on the alberque in Zamarrala - that's good information to have.

    Starting CdM Sept. 4th

So finally, after many months of talking about and planning for the Camino the big day is finally at hand. Will be leaving home tomorrow very early and if all goes well starting from Madrid on the 4th. What have I gotten myself into? Possibly the adventure of a lifetime? Anyone else walking...

    Madrid Hotels

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply. Apparently the 12th of October (when I'll be needing the room) is some kind of major Spanish holiday. Many of the places that have been recommended to me seem to have really jacked up their rates to mark the occasion or are already sold out...

    Madrid Hotels

Greetings - Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay in Madrid - convenient to the airport, metro, food, etc. I'm looking for something nicer and more private than a hostel but not super luxurious (would you send your mother there,?). Thank you.

    Poisonous Snakes???

I plan to. My departure date (Sept.2), which used to seem off in the distant future is fast approaching. Am really looking forward to this adventure. The forum has been a hugely beneficial resource for planning. Thanks again to all who make it happen.

    Poisonous Snakes???

Greetings - In all of my reading camino questions on the forum, I don't ever recall anyone talking about the need to look out for poisonous snakes. Do they not exist in Spain or are people just not talking about them? If they are around, what should I be on the look out for? Do they make any...

    Shoes for My Camino

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I think what I needed to hear is that no one shoe will cover all conditions so wear something comfy, which is my Hoka Cliftons.
