Looking for advice about Camino Le Puy

I second the choice to take the CELE Variant from Figeac. I loved it! I stayed an extra day in Figeac and took the 30 min train ride ( plus 4 km walk from train station ) to ROCAMADOR. Well worth it.

Reservations - how far in advance

Just arrived in St. Jean Pied de Port today and certainly after Cahors there were some empty beds in gites I stayed in. There are a few empty beds in my gite tonight.

    Kayak Marcilhac to Cabrarets

Yes, because that is me! I have kayaked on a lake but not a river. It was 20 km and I wasn’t sure if that would be too long but it wasn’t, perhaps because I had help from the current. I don’t know about the water level in Sept. You could discuss with the owner. It was a fun experience. Glad...

    Kayak Marcilhac to Cabrarets

Yesterday I kayaked from Marcilhac-Sur-CELE to Cabrarets. A great day! The river is higher right now but perfect for me. There are quite a few rapids but easily navigable with high water. There was one intimidating that I mentioned to the owner. It is soon after the straight metal bridge (...

    Booking and Apps/Books

I really like the Cicerone Guide in English. And the Wise Pilgrim map app which gives my location in real time. I am on the Via Podiensis right now. There was also a Forum posting listing all accommodations on the Via Podiensis. It was excellent. I am glad I have booked ahead as it is busy...

LIVE from the Camino Canoe/Kayak Espalion to Estaing

I do expect rapids, but can you tell me more about the slides? The one in Espalion did look intimidating to me.

LIVE from the Camino Canoe/Kayak Espalion to Estaing

I am not sure if what I posted earlier went through.., This was the day I was looking forward to. It was bright and sunny and calm. Short story -I chose not to go. River high and fast ( aknowledged by Silvain the owner). Although he seemed to think it was no problem. I was the first...

Reservations - how far in advance

I leave Le Puy en Velay April 24. Out of my concern for all the French holidays in May I have booked ahead to Cahors. I found one place that was already booked up for mid May in Marcilhac-sur-CELE ( on the CELE variant) . In that community there was only one other gite but there were two...

Now I see! Great map! Do you have the whole Via Podiensis in map form like that? Where would I find it to download? Thanks!

    Canoe Espalion to Estaing

Thanks again. I am looking forward to it. I do love being on the water. I think it will be a lovely break from walking. It seems that you might have many Caminos in your future? So perhaps you will find yourself on that river. However as a white water rescue technician it may be a little...

    CELE Variant itinerary

Thanks so much. Your information is helpful. I am actually confused by the choices of alternate routes and maybe just need to read more carefully. But any recommendations that are less strenuous “ relaxing stroll “ along the river to Cahors sounds lovely. However I would take more strenuous...

    Canoe Espalion to Estaing

Thanks for your first hand observations. The river sounds quite tame, but I wonder what time of year that was or is that significant on that river. Where I live spring has high, fast flowing rivers because of snow melt, but maybe not in France. I am sorry that your leg is stopping you from...

    Canoe Espalion to Estaing

Sage advice. Thanks so much. I did hear from the company today. They are not open for reservations until April1. The ?? guided tour ( not sure - have to ask) leaves at 1:30 and arrives Estaing approximately 5:30 pm. Gear is trucked ahead for pickup at Estaing. Families do this trip so the...

    Canoe Espalion to Estaing

Has anyone had experience kayaking/ canoeing the river from Espalion to Estaing? This would be May 2. Spring so is the water faster then? How were the grade I. -II rapids? Any real chance of capsizing? Any suggestions on securing my waist pack carrying valuables in case I do? Is the...

    CELE Variant itinerary

Hello everyone. As always I am thankful for the advice given here! Please comment on my itinerary re difficulty: Figeac - Espagnac -Sainte - Eulalie. 25.7 km. Cicerone says easy to moderate. Is it? I would like to walk this distance in one day if I can Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie. -...
