If you're planning to stay in Lauzerte before getting to Moissac, I highly recommend the Guest House Horizon Lauzerte. Really comfortable old house, well located, (the restaurant across the street is great!), and the host is a very friendly Dutch woman who did our laundry, which is always bonus...
I meant to include a couple of links but forgot. Here's the official RV link: http://en.rotavicentina.com/. Lots of good information, pictures, route descriptions, information on where to stay, etc.
In particular, you can get the official guidebook on that site at this address...
1. Here’s a day-by-day of our itinerary. Notice that there were some days where we took buses or trains – this was due to reading our guidebooks and determining that some sections were better left unhiked. Also, there are officially two more stops on the Rota Vicentina, but we needed to be in...
We did both the Portuguese (2016) and Le Puy (2017) routes. I see that most people prefer the scenery of Le Puy, but we enjoyed the Portuguese more. (To be fair, we did have excellent weather in Portugal and very not excellent weather on Le Puy, so that might have colored my opinion somewhat.)...
FWIW, before we did the Le Puy route this year, we biked from Paris to Moulins. For as much as possible, we stayed along various canals (e.g., Briare), which makes for a longer trip but is very pretty and highly recommended. (Side note: France is really missing the ticket by not improving their...
Here's what we did this year:
06/27/17 - Le Puy to Montisrol: Long first day. Most people stop earlier in Saint Privat d'Allier. By going on to Montisrol, we didn't have to deal with very steep downhills out of Saint Privat the next morning (after heavy rain), just the steep uphills into...
We biked from Paris to Moulins, then hiked from Le Puy to SJPdP, and the only thing the volunteer at the pilgrim's office gave us was a disappointed look when he learned we were stopping there instead of continuing after a mere 800 miles.
Sorry, I don't know. It read "Securité" and pointed us in the opposite direction we expected. Since you know about it, you will probably be able to scope it out.
The locals said the worms weren't bad all year long so you may be OK. If not, the best advice I heard was to put on your rain gear...
It super sucked when I found out people were still able to cross at 6:30. It's like they purposely waited to inconvenience the most people possible. Thanks, Cahors.
This morning, July 13, the Pont Valentre bridge in Cahors was closed. (It was open yesterday) We had to detour to another bridge then cut back to the trail, approximately 30 minutes. No idea if it has reopened, so plan accordingly.
At about 6 kilometers from Montquc, there's a divergence to the...
Has anyone biked from slightly south of Paris (probably Melun) to Le Puy-en-Velay?
It looks like taking Véloroute des Pèlerins (EuroVelo 3) = La Scandibérique to Orleans, then taking the La Loire a velo to Le Puy might work.
Wondering about being able to avoid Orleans by heading directly...
Very informative post. We did the Frances last year and plan to do the Le Puy to SJPdP in May/June this year. Several questions:
I read several comments about calling ahead. Does that apply to all accommodations or just the gites?
Are gites the same as albergues? We tried albergues on the...
