I'm near Cahors now, not doing the Camino but on holiday and doing short circular walks each day. The MMD has been great with maps and distances for me in planning each day. The 2017 edition is in two parts now. There are a lot of walkers here and at the cafes at lunchtime more than half are...
I think the "danger" is just that it is on the main road.
The caterpillars should be mostly gone now. There is a sign on the way into the woods warning about them.
Apparently each butterfly lays 30, 000 eggs which eat their way through the box hedges and they breed 3 times this summer...a...
Saturday morning 9th Sept:
Torrential rain all night and still raining now but lighter. The track through the woods has a steep 1km descent which I imagine is treachorous this morning, the road will be safer today.
OK have double checked, the diversion seems to be just to take you off the main road. You leave the road and travel south through the woods and join up with the main route again with about 200m left on roadway before a nice trail again. You can stick to roadway if you want. Woods add about 0.5km...
I'm here now and very much in holiday mode still, which means too much food and wine and lots of lazing around.
However I went for a short 3km walk yesterday and ended up doing about 500m on the GR65. According to the book the actual route is about 2.5km from me and as I headed out yesterday I...
I am just before Montcuq (on holiday not an actual Camino). There is a diversion before Montcuq that brings you south through the woods. While walking there yesterday I encountered 1 single gentleman walking and 4 French people at about 10am.
Then at lunchtime in Lauzerte lots of pairs of...
Also was told this area is full of these small chapels and if the door us locked the key is normally hidden close by....always look for a flower pot or if not a stone that it could be under. I have no proof of this, just passing on local knowledge
Hi I'm actually right here now. I don't know why the route is diverted but was in those woods yesterday and will be again today. The "worms" are all gone. It seems to have been a plague of caterpillars that have attacked all the local box hedges. The caterpillars eat their way through the hedge...
Leaving on the ferry on Thursday and will be in Montcuq Sunday evening. I have the MMD book and have 5 days walking planned. Just not sure if darling husband will cooperate. And I won't walk if its too hot the first week, it takes me a while to adjust to the heat.
We had to "eat everything" and as a child when it was discovered that I just couldn't the rule was relaxed to "eat the meat and the whatever else". By 10 I just stopped eating all meat and fish....I couldn't chew or swallow them, it took a while for my Mam to understand this. But by 12 she was...
Really good to know, thanks. I have no problem paying €15 if I get some salad, bread, wine and good conversation and am not hungry when I leave. But when a restaurant has a €30 menu price which has steak and duck and I just have frites and green salad I do feel hard done by.
Anyway, with all...
Thanks, yes I have discovered that...in France you are not allowed to "not like" something. Even my mother in law (who is French) had forbidden me from saying "I don't eat..." when dining in her house when brother in law was still a child.
We had an interesting time once when looking at a house...
Thanks Jill, good info to have.
I am planning for 2018 camino which is walk Le Puy to Cahors alone, stop for a family holiday in Cahors for 10 days and then Cahors to SJPDJ again alone. If have access to bread, croissant, frites and chocolat then I wont fade away and just need to make sure...
Sorry, back again.
so I said....yes, I actually love Puy lentils and have 5kg bag in the kitchen now
Ive picked the Le Puy because it goes through my favourite parts of France, I don't really have any desire to go to Spain
posting in bits as it keeps getting lost
