    I would add that the path into and out of Conques is steep and tricky. But Conques is one of the highlights of the Le Puy route.

    There is a train station (served by a bus) in Aumont Aubrac, perhaps this could be a good starting point.

    Just one more voice to recommend Miam Miam Dodo. We used it to plan each day's route and then check our progress as we walked. Sometimes we would arrive at a village in the afternoon, then consult Miam Miam Dodo to determine If the next village was possible.
