Great to hear from you Alwyn! I live in Alexandra, right on the Rail Trail which, as you say, is mostly flat, but I have found some great little hills around the area as well to use as training. I hadn't even thought to use Barcelona as a start point. Bit scary when you are a Europe 'virgin'! So...- Mazzy

Hi from Central Otago, New Zealand. :-) I'm hoping to do the Camino Frances in 2019. There seems to be a shortage of Kiwis on websites who have advice for pure novices like me.
