I know someone who did this and it was fine. I flew via Paris to Bordeaux, and then caught the train to Bayonne, and then the bus to SJ from there. Whatever route you choose, travel in Europe is so easy.

Do we need to take a socket adaptor/converter for our electronic equipment? Or, by some small mercy, will our standard SA 2 pin plug fit into their standard wall socket?
