That is a lovely piece, thoughtful and intelligently considered. There is a certain wistfulness to it that I find appealing.
Coelho writes beautifully in English, especially if Portuguese is his mother tongue.
 
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.

Is he saying he is glad he did the walk 20 yrs. ago or that it was inevitable that he did it? It was "his destiny" so to speak.
