6 days on the Camino

My wife and I are arriving in Santiago on the 21st July for 6 days. I am thinking of getting a bus out of the town and walking into Santiago or is it best to do it in reverse? Suggestions please?

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

Sarria to Santiago takes about six days. You can get a bus or train from Santiago to Lugo, then to Sarria. My personal preference is the bus, which you can take from the airport directly to Lugo on this schedule:

7:10 9:00 LMMJVSD Santiago-Lugo

9:25 11:25 LMMJV Santiago-Lugo

11:10 13:00 LMMJVSD Santiago-Lugo

12:55 14:35 LMMJVS Santiago-Lugo

16:10 18:05 LMMJVSD Santiago-Lugo

18:40 20:30 LMMJVSD Santiago-Lugo

20:10 21:55 LMMJVD Santiago-Lugo

Hi Bosco Paul,

Of course this depends on what kind of experience you want, but it's probably a MUCH better idea not to do it in reverse. The yellow arrows only lead you in one direction: towards Santiago. That way you'll have a chance to meet other people and see them more than once, too. And, at least for me, there's something special about arriving at the Santiago Cathedral, which so many pilgrims have journeyed toward over the centuries.

Saint James's feast day is on July 25. Apparently there are big celebrations in Santiago that day....

Buen Camino!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Sarria is 112 kms from Santiago and only takes 4 days of 28 kms per day.
Pilgrims need to have a credential (a pamphlet that you collect stamps on) to stay in the hostels (albergues, or refugios). There is an office near the Cathedral in Santiago that looks at your credential and issues certificates saying you have completed your walk.

Surf through this forum and you will learn lots about what to bring, money, hostels, walking, blisters and bliss on the Camino.
Your journey has already begun.

It is possible to walk from Lugo itself on the Camino Primitivo. Looking at the bus times that gives you an extra day walking rather than riding on the bus right round to Sarria.
The only drawback is that there are fewer albergues. It is just 100km to Santiago from Lugo so you would proably need to check it qualifies as a starting point if you want a Compostela.
Buen Camino
