Flying in to Madrid early on the 17th...so excited!

For ALSA busses, do you recommend buying ticket ahead of time?

Additionally, will most likely get in to Pampolona around 16:00 (4pmish) that day...should I go straight to SJPP that day or stay the night in Pampolona? Will albergues in SJPP allow me to stay even though I havnt officially started??

All thoughts and tips appreciated!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Don't know about the travel from Madrid, but I'm sure plenty of people here can help you with that.

As for albergues in SJPdP you will have no problem. There isn't a thing of 'officially started'. (Non officially you already have started)! As long as you have your credential (pilgrim passport) then you can stay in pilgrim accomodation. If you haven't got one, then pick one up at the Pilgrims Office in St. Jean.

Its ok to arrive in the evening in St. Jean, but I would book accommodation beforehand to make sure. Staying in Pamplona is a (nice) viable option too, and possibly better, then you arrive in St Jean early, and it is a nice place to spend a day looking around and soaking up the atmosphere! Up to you really.

Yeah, its exciting! Buen Camino!

Greetings from Jerusalem and Buen Camino! The Alsa bus leaves out of Pamplona early, 1000 or so meaning that you will be arriving too late to make it by Alsa, I seem to remember that in the afternoon/ early evening there is another. A night in Pamplona, the 1000 to SJPD and it's too late to set out for Roncevalles. IF and that's a big IF, if you have reserved at Orisson you can make that easy. Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
