Well this is the time we have and it's not long till Spring- Does anyone have any links to what hostels are open and February/March tips? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Augusta!

The list of albergues on the Camino Frances that you can download free from the resource section lets you know if they are open all year. I walked back from Santiago last December, generally I found there is at least one albergue open in all the main towns. In winter if you stick to the Brierley stages you can't go wrong.

Pamplona itself is lovely in winter - a great time to sit in those wonderful old bars drinking a coffee, reading the paper and imagining Hemingway is sitting at the next table writing.

Late February and March are still winter on the Camino Frances.

Hello, and I hope all are in good health.....

On a different subject but related to Pamplona, I will be arriving to begin my Camino in Pamplona in 10 days. Should arrive early afternoon, will explore the city the rest of the day, then spend my first night in a hotel.

Instead of starting from my hotel I am thinking about taking a taxi to the outskirts of Pamplona (and avoiding the pavement as much as possible) and begin walking in a rural setting as much as practical.

Has anyone done the same? Can anyone suggest a good starting point just outside of Pamplona? Just past Cizur Menor?

You might consider walking on to Zariquiegui and the albergue which is open all year.

However in the past I have always stopped in Cizur Menor at the pleasant albergue run by Maribel Roncal.

Nearby the Asador El Tremendo
offers simple, hearty food and an open fire in winter.

There are local buses (Route 1) that go to Cizur Menor for a very small fare.

Pamplona is a small City.
I recommend that you walk the Camino through it.
It´s very easy and beautiful. It runs through the old (pretty) city and then the whole path passes through parks (Citadel, old fort) and the university area.
The rest to Zizur Menor is a pleasant stoll.
Buen Camino.
