Hi

We are new to this and plan to do Astorga - Santiago in May 2012. We are flying to Madrid from UK then coach to astorga. We arrive in Astorga at 9.30pm. Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay near the bus station bearing in mind the late arrival ideally near somewhere we can eat.
Any help welcome

Having only ever walked through Astorga, I didn't realise until I went through on the bus that the bus station is really close to the town centre. It's literally a street or two behind the cathedral. So any of the albergues or hotels in town are walkable from the bus station.

Albergue San Javier is just around the corner from the Cathedral. It is a private albergue so you can book beds ahead.
I'm not sure if they have an email address but the phone numbers are: 987 618 532 or 652 111 118

You can download a list of private albergues here:

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
If you are in possession of the Brierley guide, he has a map of Astorga.

On the right hand side, he placed the bus-station. However, beware that THIS PLACEMENT IS NOT CORRECT! :?

The bus station is to the north of the street having an arrow to RENFE (train station).

In the map, there is a break in the city wall where it says 'Catedral St. Maria'.

Cross the street from the bus station and go straight towards the city wall. There are steps up to the cathedral and a passage (not immediately visible) around its backside which leads to the Plaza Catedral. – This would bring you to the albergue Xan Javier in less than 10 minutes.

I realized there was a passage through the city wall when I was sitting people-watching in the Plaza Catedral – and wondering: why this constant traffic of people coming and going from the behind of the Cathedral?

Google maps on both the map and satellite views show the location of Estacion de Autobuses in relation to the cathedral. It is very close, just to the northeast.
