Autumn camino

In 2003, I walked the camino in may-june which was great although I caught the first week of the july rush which was horrid.
In order to avoid large groups next year, I had been thinking of walking in september-october.

Does anyone have exerience with that? Would most refugios still be opened, specifically.

Thanks for any help/advice!

My friend and I walked the Camino Frances for the month of September last year and the weather was perfect. I think we had a total of 3 hours of rain in 32 days. We are from the tropics so were concerned we would feel the cold but only wore a warm jumper for a few early mornings-the rest of the time was shorts and shirt. There were plenty of Albergues and lots of pilgrims.
