Being Spontaneous and Living in Moment

I was watching a show today on the two rovers sent to Mars. One was named Opportunity and the other was Spirit. Both were designed to work for ninety days on Mars and travel up to 600 meters. After three years, and several miles, Spirit was still working when its right front wheel seized up. The little rover just couldn't move forward any longer. Nothing the engineers did could fix it. Many people in management threw up their arms and declared that Spirit's mission had come to an end. Then one of the engineers suggested that Spirit should just be driven in reverse. And sure enough, Spirit could move in reverse even though it had to drag the seized wheel. The result was a six inch wide, half inch deep trench. After a several weeks of working across the Mar's landscape in reverse, someone noticed a very strange patch of minerals in the trench created by the seized wheel. They turned Spirit around and analyzed the strange mineral. As it turned out, this was the most important discovery of the whole mission. And the minerals would never have been discovered if the right front wheel was still working.

I have found the same thing happen to me more than once on the Camino. Not the least of which was meeting my wife after I was forced to stop walking for a few days to a severe foot injury. Without the injury, I never would have met her.

So, when you are on the Camino, and one of your wheels seize up, be excited about what is to come.
