Because of the heat in July (and the other pilgrims waking you up at an ungodly hour) you will be on the road by 8:00 latest, more likely earlier. Buen Camino, SY
Is siesta time 12-2.
So would there be plenty of cyclists on the road between 2 & 5?
I find cycling in the heat easier than hiking.
Suggested cycling times anyone please?
Thanks some interesting ideas here. I haven't booked accomodation yet but liked the conviviality of the albergues before. Maybe I could book ahead once I'm there..... estimate where I arrive at the end of my cycle. Im on a lean enough budget. If you are fine cycling in the heat and/or if it isn't too heat, the post made by @newfydog could be the way to go. You won't avoid pilgrims but you'll meet less of them than departing earlier. I would suggest to stop around 14:00 (or earlier, depending on how hot is it and how are you bearing with it). If you don't plan to stay in albergues, you could make some more cycling in the evening. If the day isn't hot (e.g.: a cool rainy day), the afternoon and the evening would be the better times to cycle because most pilgrims will be already done by then but the problem would be to find an albergue that isn't full arriving in the evening.
What about starting really early when it's cool and before the walkers? Might that work?
I think you will find that the walkers are well on thier way before you finish breakfast. You may have to switch between road and Camino depending on weather. I have seen young fit cycling pilgrims struggle on walkers camino after heavy rain. My YouTubeHello Im cycling from Logrono for 5 days starting on Sunday 3 July.
I'm not sure how far I'll get I'm going to see how it goes. I've walked and cycled as far as Logrono before. I loved walking and met lots of interesting people I enjoyed the cycling too and did it with my young son again a different but amazing experience. As it's summer and high season this time I won't want to hassle walkers so wonder wot time I should set off in the morning to avoid the crowds. I'm fit and should manage 4/5 hours cycling a day but won't be racing along. Is it easy enough to meet cyclists en route too?
